Positive pregnancy test on IUD

Posted this in chat. Didnt know there was a conception board.

Wondering if anyone can help. I'm hoping the test I've taken is just a false positive.

I had my period from 8th-13th. I've had period like bleeding from 18th. I have no idea when I had sex as I never record this and why would i?

Had the IUD in for 2 years and the problems I've had with it have been bad cramps just before my period is due and some ovulation pain.

I did the test not long ago and the first line (to indicate a positive test) didn't show up until 2-3 minute later.

I'm not sure what to do now? I cant be pregnant on the IUD and I don't want to be either. I can't afford another child.

Should i take another test? I have no symptoms except a mild cold (head and muscle aches).

What kind of /brand test was it OP?
Do you mean you had a period until the 13th of September? or August?
A pregnancy with a properly inserted IUD is pretty unlikely. Are you on any medication that could cause a false positive?
Maybe try testing again with a FRER and post a photo?

It was a cheap supermarket test.

Period until 13th September.

Not on any medication whatsoever.

What's a FRER?

If it was a full proper period until the 13th of September, you couldn’t possibly have a positive test yet. Even if you had somehow ovulated the day after your period no test would be sensitive enough yet to pick up a pregnancy.
FRER is a First Response branded pink dye test that says EARLY detection - it is one of the most reliable tests out there and is probably the least likely to give you a false result
If you get a positive test on a FRER you should see your GP. You might want to see your GP anyway just to put your mind at ease.

Yes I'm very confused. If I had my period just least week then how the hell could I be pregnant? Yet I've taken 2 tests and both are positive.

I took the first test on a whim this morning just to see if it could be possible as I've never in my life had irregular bleeding.

I couldn't get through to my GP this morning so I called 111. They are going to put me through to a clinician later today. I have to record how much blood passing and save any clots if I see them.

I'm really terrified. I don't understand what is going on. I really don't.

I hope everything is ok OP, please keep us updated on what happens.
Fingers crossed it is not an ectopic pregnancy or anything like that.
Hopefully just a false positive which you can get from some medications, from relatively harmless cysts and from menopause amongst other things

Waiting4another · 21/09/2020 12:03

Also are you getting strong positives or only faint lines?

luckystarmaking · 21/09/2020 15:56

Here is my other thread with pictures of the tests: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4029306-Positive-pregnancy-test-on-IUD?msgid=100191153#100191153

I was advised to call EPU for my local hospital and I've been given an appointment tomorrow morning to remove my coil.

I'm still not convinced that I'm pregnant despite taking 3 tests and that I only just had my period.

Also hoping it's a false positive. It wouldn't be from menopause though as I'm only 28.

There is a failure rate for IUD’s, I had a really cute one that didn’t stop my youngest from being conceived.

Floopyandtired · 21/09/2020 16:15

Hi OP, from the look of your tests you are pregnant. I’m so sorry this isn’t the news you want. I hope you manage to get seen by a doctor soon, and best wishes for however you decide to proceed x

Just had blood tests results back today and they've said it's a miscarriage. My hormones levels are very low but they can show up on a pregnancy test.

I did pass a bit of tissue 2 days ago so wondering if that was the the pregnancy as the scan yesterday couldn't find any evidence that I was pregnant.

A bit saddened and not sure why as I didn't want to have another child right now. Will have to get contraception sorted as well as the coil was removed during the appointment.

So sorry to hear that OP. It is totally normal to feel sad after a loss, even if it wasn’t the right time for you to have another child. It was likely a very early loss, so the tissue you noticed was more likely a blood clot, don’t beat yourself up about it, there wasn’t anything you could have done differently. With contraception, I have been on nexplanon on and off for around 16 years and find that it works well for me, but obviously everyone is different. Wishing you all the best x
