Hi Guys,

I’ve been on 40mg of carbimazole to help reduce my thyroid levels to a safe level to start ttc. I’ve just been to get my blood tests done and am hopeful that the result will mean I am able to be taken off and put on a medication safe to use whilst pregnant.
Does anyone have any experience with this? If so how long did you have to wait after stopping carbimazole before safely ttc?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Aimelabhaoise,

Official guidelines seem to indicate its okay immediately once your blood tests come back within normal range.

However given its link to malformations particularly during 1st trimester use and the periconception period of approximately 4 months for the embryo to develop before ovulation, your Consultant may err on the side of caution and recommend a short break.

See what he/she recommends based on their experience with others like you who ttc afterwards. They will have some anecdotal evidence that they base their recommendation from.
