Infertility test

So today I've been for a hsg, I'd done abit of research before I went to see how painful it really was, if at all.. Turned out that for me it was quite painful and I went all faint... Breathing exercises dont help when you have a mask on. Anyway the doctor told me that im all fine and we have unexplained infertility and our next step now is to go for ivf, however my partner hasn't stopped smoking and she said that he HAS to before we can be referred.. Ive told him this and he doesnt seem to be taking it seriously or am I being silly? All he's done so far is had to give a sperm sample whereas ive had numerous blood tests, ultrasounds and the hsg. I dont know how to approach this with him, do I tell him outright to quit??. The doctor is ringing me in a few weeks to check he's stopped. If he hasnt and I lie, can the ivf clinic tell he's still smoking??

I don’t think they will test to see if he is smoking but the point is that smoking can affect semen quality so he needs to give up to give the treatment the best possible chance.

I believe some NHS clinics test you before you start treatment. I haven't heard of any private clinics doing it, unless you are egg sharing. Good luck with your treatment. X

@Rdaisyleo sorry you had this experience. I had mine on Thursday and it was the same for me. I kept passing out with the pain and eventually they took me down to recovery 🙈🙈🙈.

The good thing is now it’s over and apparently you stand a better chance for the next few months so 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

@poptypingchef I hope you're feeling better now! Its not a nice experience and then to top it off you cant have anyone with you and have to wear a mask. Doesnt exactly help you relax 😂. Oh the nurse did say dont be surprised if you fall pregnant after this, I just thought she meant up until my period not the next few months! Thats great if it is.. I hope your results were okay xx
Update: my partner has bought one of those e cigarettes and has gone from smoking a pack of 20 cigarettes a day 😳 down to 3 a day, so for a weeks progress I think thats really good! Also his semen results he had a while back, we were told was pretty healthy. So fingers crossed we either fall pregnant before ivf or when we do have ivf his semen is super healthy 😂... Only when your struggling to get pregnant do you start talking about your vagina and partners semen to strangers and not bat an eyelid

Compared to that IVF was much less painful for me. Your husband does need to stop smoking and using the ecig though, as they can and do test, and as PPs say, it affects sperm quality. Fingers crossed for you.
