Longest period ever - advice needed?

Hi ladies,

Well in brief.. gave birth in early February, normal service resumed 6 weeks after (periods and 33 day cycles), that is until June when I had a 45 day cycle, the next one was a normal 33 days and then I had another 45 day one!

However that's not the end of it unfortunately... This cycle my period stopped on CD9 but then came back on CD11. I'm now CD17 and still bleeding!
Warning TMI Alert.... (first few days just brown discharge, then had a few days of red blood, then stopped completley, then got brown discharge again, then red blood, then brown again and now red/brown).

It's started to really get me down, especially as we are TTC but more so today because I actually feel really ill (sick, headachey) and I'm worried that it's related.

Any ideas/advice/similar experiences. would love to hear from you?

FT

have you been to the doctor? def need to get this checked out

could be fibroids/infection etc etc might be nothing to worry about but you could need iron supplements at very least

Hi Newgirl,

Thanks for replying. I haven't been to the doctors as I hate feeling like I'm wasting their time (silly I know). I've also had my fill of doctors/hospitals this year - long story.

I've got no pain or anything so I'm hoping that it's not an infection. Surely there would be other symptoms other than an extra long period if there was anything to worry about?

thanks,
FT

When I was younger and swapped pills, my hormones got all messed up and I bled for 31 days. Doc said it was just hormones settling after swapping brands. Could it be your hormones having a bit of a "tizzy"?

TheNappyNipper · 08/10/2007 17:39

I would get myself along to the doctors quick smart as it doesn't sound normal at all.

have you done a pregnancy test?

newgirl · 08/10/2007 22:13

im not sure really - i would go and ask - prob no need to do any 'internal' or anything scary so its just a chat

you could call nhs direct if you prefer

i think everyone is different - endometriosis is not always painful but can lead to complications and fertility issues

go and ask you are worth it!!!!

Hi Flumpy

I agree with TNN - you might want to do a pg test.

I had what I thought was a really long stop-start period, it lasted about two weeks before it occurred to me to do a pg test. I now have a 2yo son! No idea what caused the bleeding but think it may have been something to do with implantation.

In any case if it was me I'd probably go to the GP to get it checked out anyway.

Don't leave this.

You need to get this looked at properly by a GP at the very least or a gynae.

Flumpytigger · 09/10/2007 10:45

Ok ,well I've done another test based on some your advice and........... it's come back as positive! The line is faint, but there is no mistaking it!

OH GOD what if I'm miscarrying I don't think I can cope with another loss....

I've made a docs appointment for this afternoon but I just feel like it's not going to be.. somethings not right is it?

KashaSarrasin · 09/10/2007 17:42

Good luck FT! I hope everything turns out OK

Flumpytigger · 09/10/2007 17:48

Thanks New girl, that helps to reassure me a little!

Ok, so now I've been to the Doctors and feel a little more reassured I suppose.

She said that if it's in the first 14 weeks and there's no pain then they are not overly concerned. However she has referred me to consultant led care due to past history and will leave it up to the consultant on how to proceed.

Dr said that even a scan this early won't really help to reassure me as there won't be much to see... Then she just carried on as normal, took my blood pressure, told me the Do's and Don'ts and that my due date is 30th June!

We will just have to wait and see. I feel so nervous though... eeeeek!

Thanks for taking the time to reply everyone, you've helped me loads!

Congratulations flumpytigger . Are you getting an early scan? as i suppose you won't know how far on you are.
