AF followed by BFP...WTF

Hi ladies,

So AF was due on Wednesday but didn't show up, I didn't test prior to this as I couldn't take seeing another BFN. AF finally arrived on Friday a little lighter than normal but definitely not light enough to be considered as IB, I also haven't experienced any cramping which I usually do but I just assumed I was out this month.

However I noticed that my breasts are still really sore and my nipples have become sensitive which usually disappears once AF arrived which has really confused me. I decided to finally take a test and to my surprise I came back positive straight away, the line is very faint but I can definitely see it and it is definitely pink.

I really wasn't expecting this but now I'm soooooo confused and I fear it may be an ectopic. I had a mc 11 years ago which left me heartbroken and this is the closest I've come to a BFP since. I know no one can tell me exactly what is going on with me but has anyone had any experiences of bleeding early in pregnancy and gone on to have a successful pregnancy?

@Foreverhopeful17 honestly every body is different, I've been through the same and read a lot of stories where people bled and it was a positive outcome. For me, it was an ectopic but that doesn't mean it'll be the same outcome for you. I would call the EPU in the morning and explain what's happened, they may do bloods every couple of days to see what's happening with your HCG and that will give a good indication. Fingers crossed for you x

Every woman is different, each pregnancy is different. I would wait a few days, 48hrs, and retest to see if the line is darker. You may have ovulated very late. Then, as PP suggested, give the EPU a call.

Hi OP, I cant shed too much light apart from my friend bled quite a bit in her first trimester. They were convinced it was a miscarriage but she went onto have a healthy baby 💜

This is literally what happened to me this month - very very light period, then got a BFP on day 3 of “period”. Not sure if it is a chemical pregnancy and the HCG is just still in the blood, or just heavier than average implantation bleeding. I hadn’t even thought about ectopic as it was at the time of AF or a few days early anyway so didn’t know that was a risk. Why do you think it’s ectopic rather than a chemical or implantation?

Oh no @notalwaysalondoner I'm sorry you're in a similar position, it really sucks being in limbo. Tbh my mind always goes to worse possible scenario but also because my symptoms seem to be getting stronger whereas I thought if it was a chemical they would have reduced but with a ectopic your body continues to produce HCG so you would continue to get symptoms. That is just one massive assumption though, I've got the EPU on speed dial from 9am. Have your tests been getting darker? X

My tests today and yesterday are the same I would say. I just assumed it was implantation bleeding rather than anything to worry about (it it’s not a chemical) - mine was pretty light, although it lasted three days whereas before my previous miscarriage it was just one wipe of the tissue. I’m abroad on holiday so haven’t called EPU - what was their advice?

As long as your tests are not getting lighter it probably was just implantation so congratulations ☺️ I had a blood test and have been asked to return in 48 hours to do another to monitor my hormone levels although my levels are very low so probably a cp sadly.
