2nd infertility: TTC for 6 months aged 40, what would the GP offer if I don't want IVF?

Hello,
I'm 40 & lucky enough to already a lovely little toddler. TTC our 2nd & obvs time is not on my side- 7 months now & no a sniff of a BFP. OPKs would suggest I ovulate regularly, regular cycles. DP & I have healthy BMI, don't smoke, no alcohol, reasonable diet. Could the GP actually offer anything useful? Thyroid function test is the only thing I can think of. Don't want IVF & wouldn't be eligible anyway (& prob lower success rate than just keeping on trying). Anyone been through 2nd infertility tests with GP & was there anything useful there? Thanks!

I’m over 40 and the doctor said there was nothing he could do. I am however pregnant naturally now, so don’t give up.
Hopefully your doctor will be more helpful. Good luck.

I am in exactly the same situation except didn't seek help at 6 months when I wish we had.
Our doctors have been great. We had bloods and semen test which came back clear. I was referred for a scan and they have found polycystic ovaries or syndrome. Not sure which. I'm waiting for the next referral to a gynaecologist.

Like you, I dont want IVF as I am blessed with a 3 year old. However, I have an answer and for the last 3 months, no tests, ov sticks etc. Which is a relief.

Same here and turns out it was my thyroid. TSH was 4 and should be comfortably under 2.5 to concieve. Took almost 3 months on Levo to stabilise and fell pregnant first try. And again when I tried again!

With AMH of 1.1 and AFC of 4.

I did use those 3 months to take supplements as recommended by 2nd Ed It Starts with the Egg (I took vitamin e, folate, vitamin d, 50mg DHEA, 300mg ubiquinol). See details itstartswiththeegg.com/uk-supplement-buying-guide/

That's all really helpful, thanks! I am losing hair so should get my thyroid checked (but to be fair haven't had it cut this year so prob just too much of it). Thinking of looking into a private fertility consult so I can have a proper conversation with an expert even if there isn't anything on offer- I'd feel I'd covered all the bases then. Had an elective section & now making myself paranoid that has caused fertility issues even though latest medical studies say no sig. impact. Likely just my golden ovaries!
