Come one, come all Grin! A thread for those TTC after coming off hormonal contraceptive pills.

Discussions typically include:

  • Baffling temp charts
  • Absent or oddly timed EWCM
  • Whacky cycle lengths
  • AF gone AWOL (current high score is 141 days post pill)

Hey @TheHotelCalifornia :) I've just got bloods today, so expect it will be taken by a nurse and won't have any opportunity to ask any Q's I don't think, apart from asking what they are testing for. I had a call with the GP last week and that's who's requested the bloods. I didn't get much out of the call, apart from her saying it can take a while to settle down, despite the NHS website saying 3 months, and me now being 6 months off the pill. Anyway, they are doing bloods, so can't complain too much.

Fingers crossed your second cycle will go better than your first! I'm CD21 and no positive OPK or temp spike yet. I've been getting EWCM since CD14 now, but that doesn't seem to mean anything with me as had it over two weeks last cycle and not sure if I ovulated in the end, mehh! x

Flowerkm · 30/09/2020 10:25

Hey! just catching up from yesterday. Have been reading daily :)

@MintGreenLife and @TheHotelCalifornia Hope the bloods go ok for you today.

Quiet my end, 8 days until ovulation but have the rest of the week off work with the OH so going to unwind Smile

Hope everyone else is all wellThanks

Juno231 · 30/09/2020 10:45

@TheHotelCalifornia I don't trust the femometer charts or predictions one bit - every time I see people post their femo charts they seem way off on identifying ovulation and don't take opks/ewcm into account either. Fertility friend all the way 🎉

Kay00 · 30/09/2020 11:17

@TheHotelCalifornia I can second that - the FF charts are so much easier to read and the app is free.

@Flowerkm i'm on CD9 so all quiet here too. I'm going to stop taking my B-Complex tomorrow in the hope it encourages another Ov within 'normal' ranges.

Also today is the first day i'll start taking 2000mg of EPO (rather than 500mg), so hopefully I get some EWCM this month :)

Juno231 · 30/09/2020 11:19

@kay00 good luck with the EPO! It worked first cycle for me, it was such a relief!

MintGreenLife · 30/09/2020 13:06

Just back from the GP. They're not testing as much as I hoped, but are testing prolactin, testosterone, thyroid and something called Ferritin, which I've looked up and is iron levels or something. Am interested to see what prolactin comes back as, as one thing Agnus Castus helps with is raised prolactin, so at least I'll know how to help that. Not sure whether I hold off on the Agnus Castus until I get the results back 😕 They said early next week, so I guess it's only a few more days really x

Kay00 · 30/09/2020 13:29

@MintGreenLife does FF still think you ovulated on CD16?

Kay00 · 30/09/2020 13:30

@MintGreenLife I don't know much about these tests, do you think they are largely aiming to detect any PCOS? What other tests could they have done?

MintGreenLife · 30/09/2020 13:59

@Kay00 yep it does, I'm choosing to disbelieve it though as my temps are only just above the cover line and too low for post-o temps. Yeah I think that's it exactly, they are just testing for PCOS. I was hoping things like FSH, LH, progesterone and oestrogen would have been measured too x

MintGreenLife · 30/09/2020 14:01

@Kay00 I'm surprised really as looking into it quickly FSH and LH are good measures for PCOS. Ah well, will see what the results say x

Kay00 · 30/09/2020 14:09

Hmm... I hope you get the answers you want xx

Juno231 · 30/09/2020 14:40

@MintGreenLife higher testosterone, lower levels of ferritin can both be signs of pcos and thyroid problems can affect TTC as well. I would have expected them to check LH/FSH as well but perhaps it's the wrong time of the cycle to give any reliable results for that?

MintGreenLife · 30/09/2020 15:19

@Juno231 thanks for clarifying :) they didn't even ask what CD I'm on, so seems that's not been taken into consideration. Slightly annoying, but I suppose if I really feel the need I could get tests done privately x

AnonymousXXIX · 30/09/2020 15:52

@MintGreenLife they never asked me what day I was on for the blood-tests either! Had 1 random set, and then 1 on CD 2 specifically; but CD 21 was never mentioned (even though I reckon if anything progesterone is my issue!). Waiting for scan now (still.........) and may then ask about blood once more.

Trying4one · 30/09/2020 15:53

@MintGreenLife they didn't ask what cycle day I was on either to be honest when I had my blood tests but then again it was a male phlebotomist so thats would have been asking too much for him as their job is just to take blood 😂

MintGreenLife · 30/09/2020 16:22

@AnonymousXXIX @Trying4one hmm perhaps is normal then. I did ask the GP when I had the consultation if they needed to be taken on a specific day and she said no, but makes sense now seeing as they are only testing prolactin and testosterone hormone wise x

Juno231 · 30/09/2020 17:00

@MintGreenLife I've never been asked on the day either if it helps - most of the time the phlebotomist/nurse doesn't even know why I'm there, just that they need to take my blood. No wonder they end up testing me for day 3 bloods instead of day 21 lol.

MintGreenLife · 30/09/2020 17:28

@Juno231 oh no, that must have been frustrating! Am so on the fence about whether to carry on with Agnus Castus from tomorrow. On the one hand I'm thinking maybe I should wait for my results/see if anything happens over the next few days given that I'm getting EWCM, but on the flip side I just want to get on with things in hope it helps me along.

How are you today? Did you manage to hold off testing again this morn? x

Juno231 · 30/09/2020 17:42

@MintGreenLife no I did test this morning and it's a BFN at 12dpo so I'm definitely out! Today is moving out day though so been super busy. Have a feeling i'll end up having a little cry come bed time though...

I think I'd carry on with the AC if I were you, I doubt its effects will be instantaneous and there's no point delaying things :)

MintGreenLife · 30/09/2020 18:08

@Juno231 congrats on moving day! That's exciting and a step in the right direction for starting your little family. Really hope you can enjoy your first night in your new home and that you don't feel to blue about the BFN.

Thanks, I think you're right. I didn't want to take it for the bloods as didn't want to impact anything, but think I may as well get started properly now that's out the way x

Kay00 · 30/09/2020 18:45

@juno231 how exciting that you have moved! Congratulations on your new home 🏡

MrsBtobe2020 · 01/10/2020 08:00

@juno231 congratulations on your new home! X

Tinkertailor88 · 01/10/2020 08:35

Can I join ladies? Post pill issues are driving me insane. Been ttc 6 months after being on pill 14 years (I’m 36 eeek). I have regular ish periods but can barely call them periods they’re so light! Thin lining was confirmed at a scan (2mm on day21), and my progesterone is quite low so they can’t confirm or deny ovulation altho BBT chart looked like I did ovulate. The level of prog means I couldn’t sustain a pregnancy anyway even if it did manage to attach to my pitiful lining. I have my day 3 blood results on the way. And have a fertility appointment on 9th October so will see what they say. Currently seeing an acupuncturist and trying every supplement known to man as well as an elimination diet to detox the liver post pill (no dairy wheat sugar or alcohol eh hem mostly!!!) ..... sooooo here’s to hoping things settle soon. Be nice to have some others to share experiences with. I had no idea coming off the pill could be so traumatic!!!!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 01/10/2020 08:39

@Juno231 congratulations on your new home! Hope the move goes well

@Tinkertailor88 that sounds so difficult! Hope the fertility appt has some answers and some options for you

MintGreenLife · 01/10/2020 08:53

@Tinkertailor88 of course you can join ☺️ That sounds very stressful and disappointing, but good news is it does seem like you are ovulating! Do you have a short luteal phase due to the low progesterone? I'm six months off the pill and seem to not be ovulating regularly. From my BBT I can only confirmovulation has happened once since coming off. I've been for bloods and am currently waiting for the results. I went down a similar route to you in trying to detox - I cut out sugar, dairy and alcohol (apart from the odd drink here or there). Doesn't seem to have helped so far so I'm trying to cut out wheat also. I have IBS which is an inflammatory condition, and so am thinking that in cutting out wheat and dairy that might reduce inflammation and may also help my body along with ovulation etc x
