Come one, come all Grin! A thread for those TTC after coming off hormonal contraceptive pills.

Discussions typically include:

  • Baffling temp charts
  • Absent or oddly timed EWCM
  • Whacky cycle lengths
  • AF gone AWOL (current high score is 141 days post pill)

@Sarahp2308 Ah I hope then pains eased up for you :(

I got a static smiley on my CB OPK this morning but still only a high reading on my strips..had EWCM and ovulation pain yesterday so assumed I missed my peak but guess its happening today/tomorrow. This happening last cycle and my strip showed a peak the day after my CB so will see :) guessing to mark today as ovulation day or shall i wait for my strip to show positive? Xx

TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/09/2020 07:50

@Flowerkm it's definitely possible to miss peak on the strips as they vary by the hour so dont fret too much about them! The other signs are looking good!

My temp is up today and we BD last night so... is this my first true TWW?!

@TheDaydreamBelievers ooh good luck! Two weeks is such a long time, every single symptom is a 'what if' moment haha. (I had plenty of these during cycle 1 and 2 before I realised I probably wasn't even ovulating). When I was a teenager I don't recall ever having ovulation pain, could this still be the case and I don't get any signs of ov?

TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/09/2020 08:04

My understanding is that some women get it and some dont @MrsBtobe2020 - I dont recall it either from pre-pill days but that was many many years ago!

My random curious thought - if our egg supply is pre-set, and I was on a pill for 12 years that suppressed ovulation, does that mean I have more eggs now than I would if I'd not been on the pill?

Flowerkm · 09/09/2020 08:29

@TheDaydreamBelievers Thank you ☺️

Wooo! Thats good news about the temp and getting a BD in! It could well be your first TWW which is exciting!
Im beginning my first proper TWW tomorrow as well, I don't temp so not 100% but going along the lines today is O day. We can ride this out together!
First month going along the lines of if it happens it happens (last 2 months just been using protection and trying the odd once) we have DTD 3 times in the last 2 days but won't put pressure on OH for tonight so we shall see but would like one last try tonight 😂

Omg that question is a good question and I need to know the answer! Ive never thought about it like that...

Kay00 · 09/09/2020 08:59

Hi @TheDaydreamBelievers @Flowerkm I too am in my 1st TWW, and I have no idea what the symptoms I need to spot are... I have just been so focused on ovulating that I hadn't thought this far ahead, haha!

Flowerkm · 09/09/2020 09:15

@Kay00 Yay!! 😀
I have no idea either, I just can't even imagine it happening, it such a weird feeling as wanted this for so long!
I get quite a few PMS symptoms after ovulation like sore boobs, tired and headaches so Im going to be super aware that these are normal for me 🙈 but Ill probably find a new symptom to focus on.

My AF is due on the 23rd September according to my app but Im going to give or take a couple of days with that :) xx

Kay00 · 09/09/2020 09:22

Hmm... I'm not sure when my AF is due. If you see my previous chart then FF thinks my AF is due at the very end of Sept, but that was based on my previous 42 day long cycle. If I ovulated on CD 17 (Sunday 6th Sept) then I assume I will be due 8 to 10 days later so around 15th Sept, but I am hoping to extend my LP by a couple of days (B Vits) so hopefully due closer to 20th Sept. We shall see!!

KeepSmiling89 · 09/09/2020 11:07

Hey. I've come over from the sharing experiences of TTC after coming off the pill. Just wanted to share on here as discovered this is the new thread.

I stopped the pill (Brevinor) in Jan this year...had first real AF in March. Started TTC straight away. Didn't let AF get me down too much as I was getting to know my body and cycles again. Of course there was disappointment but DH and I got through it. Used OPKs for 2 months...
I'm now 10 weeks pregnant!

Flowerkm · 09/09/2020 11:12

@Kay00 Ah yes, maybe it will come earlier as you ovulated earlier? Vitamins sound good and fingers crossed you get a good LP 😀

@KeepSmiling89 Aww congratulations 😀 thats such lovely news, really nice to hear positive stories after coming off the pill! Hope you're feeling ok so far xx

TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/09/2020 11:51

@Kay00 and @Flowerkm symptom spotting is where madness lies. The same symptoms apply to both AF and pregnancy! The only true pregnancy - only symptoms are way way after the TWW. I think our best bet is to just totally ignore it and distract ourselves!

@KeepSmiling89 congratulations! Another graduate!!!

Sarahp2308 · 09/09/2020 12:10

I’m not sure how I will manage my first TWW! We haven’t been properly trying just not preventing really but think we may need to take it up a notch!

Congratulations @KeepSmiling89

Kay00 · 09/09/2020 13:05

@TheDaydreamBelievers haha, I see, so its probably best to ignore all the 'tugs' and twinges. I get tonnes of random pains all over my body all the time, so I cannot see how I would distinguish between them and a conception Hmm Grin

Flowerkm · 09/09/2020 14:51

@TheDaydreamBelievers Very true! As my OH is so relaxed about it and believes it will happen when it happens i think that will help me chill out a bit but come 10DPO ill be dying to take a test lol xx

Kay00 · 09/09/2020 15:23

@Flowerkm your partner sounds nice Smile My partner is nice too but he finds everything very stressful, and can't cope with me bringing up anything to do with TTC. For the record, we had a sit down chat and he agreed (after 17 years together) that now would be a good time to have a child, but since then I have been pretty much on my own haha. I tried to bring up baby names the other day (I thought that would be the nice fun part of TTC) but that was too stressful too apparently... so what happens if/when I actually get pregnant?? Hmm Confused

Flowerkm · 09/09/2020 15:38

@Kay00 aww, mines the same though. He's so chilled but that's because he won't think about it, he also doesn't like me going on and on about it as it stresses him out , honestly you're alone with that. Not sure how it stresses him when its me going through it but there you go lol its good as if he was obsessing id be even worse but would be nice to have a convo with him though.
Hopefully they change when we get pregnant, its probably just their way of dealing with it but they need to understand we need their support xx

TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/09/2020 15:49

@Kay00 @Flowerkm I think either men or women can get stressed about it because for both trying to conceive really hits a lot of buttons about what it means to be a man/woman.

Ability to get someone pregnant or to get pregnant feels Iike it's so linked to almost... worth? I think for example men will find knowing about ovulation time hard as then there is a big pressure to perform, for their semen to do its job, for them to not "let their partner down". And let's face it, for men virility is super linked to their sense of self!

Also, I think at times too much anatomical detail definitely makes sex less sexy. Becomes a sort of "well clearly this one is a procedure with a goal to get pregnant" rather than "ooh I fancy/love you so much, let's get naked "

OP posts:
Kay00 · 09/09/2020 15:55

@TheDaydreamBelievers haha, well it is certainly less sexy, I get that Grin. I suppose I hadn't thought that it might be him worrying about his sperm 'performing', i'll bear that in mind going forward. Maybe he'll feel better if/when I fall pregnant. Thank you.

Flowerkm · 09/09/2020 16:22

@TheDaydreamBelievers Very true actually. He did mention previously how he felt pressured when I was ovulating which i totally get so i do try and keep it quiet so when we DTD we're not thinking of the end goal as its deffo less sexy 🙈 xx

musicaljojo · 09/09/2020 20:39

Hello,
I'm post pill and it's driving me mad, I came off due to the pill not suiting me and we were planning to start TTC baby #2 in maybe January time. I came off the pill in April and I thought I was starting to settle down as I had a cycles of 39, 34,36,37 and now I'm on day 40 with no AF and 2 negative pregnancy tests.

I think I was rather naive thinking that I would settle down so quickly but I've been so worked up with my first starting nursery school this Sept I think I've upset my cycle as it's always been sensitive to things when I get worked up.

To the poster who went 141 days wow!!! I'm nothing compared to that and it's already driving me mad cause I just don't want to come on whilst at work, I work in a school and thought of suddenly just coming on is like argh!!

I swear I'm never taking artificial hormones again!

lawandgin · 09/09/2020 21:40

@TheDaydreamBelivers thank you for the new thread and tag!

I'm back after a lovely few days in Norfolk with DH and parents. Relaxed completely, forgot about OPKs etc. However I have been spotting today and yesterday and it seems to be mixed with EWCM?! I think I had this last month around the same time, I'm now CD 41 so I reckon I'm in for another 58 day cycle, FFS. No peak OPK yet, I could have missed it the last few days, but I dont think so. Will keep testing.
I was going to pay for a private fertility MOT at the start of next AF, but I might just ring my GP as I wonder if I'll need a referral to gynae?

Oh and my latest smear results arrived while we were away and showed positive for HPV. Need a repeat smear in a year, YAY....

TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/09/2020 21:57

@musicaljojo - this is definitely the place for you! Lots of us have had odd post-pill cycles, missing periods, weird lengths etc. Welcome.

@lawandgin urghhh, way for circumstances to undo your nice relaxing break! My understanding is that NHS GPs wont give a referral to gyane unless obvious problems or having attempted to conceive for 1 yr +?

OP posts:
lawandgin · 09/09/2020 22:32

@TheDaydreamBelievers it's confusing... everything says cycles of 35 plus days are abnormal. But I've also seen the same as you said. I think I will go at it from a non-TTC perspective. I have bleeding between periods, long cycles and pain during DTD and bleeding after. Normal smear (other than HPV) the pain and bleeding during and after DTD are probably due to my cervical ectropion, but there must be a hormonal imbalance because of the CD 40-44 bleeding and 58 day cycles?! I haaaate mother nature right now!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 10/09/2020 07:53

@lawandgin definitely atypical! Try your GP, I've heard them say gynae usually wont take a referral less than 6 mo after pill but the wait lists are long atm so they put my referral in at 5mo ish.

Anyone got any chart insight? Maybe @Juno231? Temp is rising but I'm concerned that to confirm ovulation it seems to want temps I've never seen! (36.67 is the highest I have ever recorded!). Currently up at 36.59.

Also anyone getting bloods done, ask for the actual values as my GP said mine were normal and they were not Hmm. Good to remember that GPs are fab but are not reproductive endocrinologists.
