Hello all

After such a difficult time myself and my husband are talking about trying for another baby. We have suffered 2 miscarriages and had a TFMR for severe spina bifida at 22 weeks in the last 18 months.

Its been advised by fetal medicine and the gp to take a higher dose of folic acid, but we have read positive stories of ladies taking Inositol and a higher dose of folic acid and having a healthy pregnancy.

Does anyone have any experience of taking Inositol? And what dose did you take?

Thank you for reading xxx

I'm sorry you've had such a tough time of it OP.

I've no experience but as I'm getting on a bit have been reading 'It starts with the Egg' by Rebecca Fett. She recommends lots of supplements for various needs and dosages related to these, I may have read about inositol there. I've definitely added a load more supplements to my daily dose since reading and take 800 mcg of folic acid a day now- I take methylated as its easier for the body to use. Zita west does a range of good pre conception vits, which I take with extra methylfolate (I take Nature's Own). Hope that helps

Best of luck xx

I've been taking the MyOva Myo-Inositol tablets. They recommend taking 2 in the morning and 2 at night but I'm so forgetful I only took 2 at night. The first full month I started taking them I fell pregnant and this was after 18months TTC. The only other thing we did differently that month was use the Conceive plus lube.
Unfortunately for us the pregnancy ended in MC, but it was the first time in 18 months we even managed to get pregnant and I 100% think it was down to the inositol tablets. I stopped taking them after the MC but started again this month so keeping everything crossed! X

Lou98 · 25/08/2020 00:41

They're also really good for regulating cycles. I've always had irregular periods but when taking those tablets my cycles were very regular and I think that's what helps with the TTC too! X

Thank you both for taking time to reply, I really appreciate it! Wishjng you both the very best of luck ttc too Xxx

I know this thread is a few months old but I was searching for inositol threads and it came up and I thought a reply to you.

I have mild pcos and took inositol to get pregnant and it was very effective for me both times. At the time I did a significant amount of reading on inositol (peer reviewed research papers) and one of the key things and struck me at the time is that they found that inositol is very effective in protecting against spina bifida and that folic acid alone is not sufficient as a protective measure.

I'm back on it now after gaining 1.5 stone and hoping it'll help me shift some lbs.

Wishing you all the best Thanks

Hi! I take 4g of powdered myoinositol everyday.
It’s done WONDERS for my cycle, I take it everyday of my cycle until a week after ovulation then start again on cd1.

I started in March, got pregnant in may naturally (after 2.5 years trying) unfortunately ended in a mc at 6 weeks.
Started taking it again a month later and have had 3 periods since, which is crazy regular for me as before I started taking it I had 3 periods in over a year.
I take it in water and you can’t taste it, it also ramps up my cm which is helpful for ovulation.

I was diagnosed with pcos which is why I take 4g a day... I don’t actually think I have pcos as I don’t have any cysts on my ovaries and my consultants only reasons - word for word - ‘you’re fat and have spots’ 🤨
I had 2 spots and am marginally over weight for my height.

Hope that helps x

I thought I would update the thread in case anyone find themselves in a similar situation in the future....

Myself and my husband have tried for another baby. Im currently 17+4 with a healthy baby, I was scanned at fetal medicine yesterday and all is healthy! Im sure its down to taking 5mg of folic acid and 1g of inositol daily (along with vitamin C, vitamin D and COQ10)

Xxx

Congratulations @dddflower thank you for updating and giving us hope. I hope your pregnancy is going well! Love to hear the positive stories, I am nervous but think I may try myo-inositol. Was there a particular brand anyone used please? Thank you :)

Dddflower · 16/06/2021 12:27

Thank you Emilou 💛 I'm currently 20+1 today and had my 20 week scan yesterday. All is perfect! I was taking 5mg of folic acid, 1g of myo-inositol (just from amazon, around £10 a tub of 90 tablets) vitamin c and vitamin d. Good luck to you and give it a try. You have nothing to lose, dont give up hope xxx

What a lovely update! Congratulations OP! Flowers

That's amazing news @Dddflower. We sadly lost our baby to anencephaly last month (tfmr) and I'm just researching as much as possible while waiting on all the results, I have been very interested in the Inositol studies, so great to hear a real life success story. Thank you so much for sharing and a massive congratulations to you!

Dddflower · 17/06/2021 06:11

tink553 Im so so sorry for your precious loss. The study i read originally was from Great Ormond Street, defo worth a Google and a read. I know nothing is going to replace your baby or make you feel better right now, but my sister also had a baby with anencephaly, but to follow on from that pregnancy she did have a healthy baby, another story of hope. Good luck and keep me updated on your journey x

Aww @dddflower how exciting. What an amazing time for you, how lovely! Did you find out of its a boy or girl or are you keeping it a surprise? Thank you so much for your response that really helps, I've seen those exact ones I really need to bite the bullet and order! Thank you!
Wishing you lots of luck and enjoyment throughout the rest of your pregnancy! 💖
@tink553 I'm so sorry, I can't even imagine how difficult it must be. It all just seems so cruel doesn't it. How are you doing? Your baby will always be your baby and a part of your journey. It's not the path we would have chosen but don't give up hope. We have to believe we will all get our happy endings. ❤️

Whatisgoingonhere · 17/06/2021 10:58

Congratulations Dddflower!

I was in a similar boat to you, bub had anencephaly so we had TFMR.

Folic levels had been fine but had to take higher doses afterward, and also started on 1g myoinositol, plus multivitamins, vit d and b, Maca powder and q10 supplements.

I fell pregnant with DC2 the first month we were able to try again. That was at age 41, resulting in a healthy dc. More women need to be aware that these supplements can really help!

Sorry for your losses Flowers

tink553 · 17/06/2021 13:35

@Dddflower yes that's the one I came across, I had briefly looked at it a few weeks ago but I wasn't taking much in then. It's very promising although a very small study but that combined with the animal studies gives me a lot of hope.
More importantly stories like yours, your sisters and @Whatisgoingonhere mean the world to hear! You feel so hopeless at times but honestly hearing this has made me feel slightly excited again like it can all be ok next time. Thank you all so much for sharing!
Thank you @Emilou89 it's has been so difficult but I'm doing ok now... if I'm honest I'm counting down the days until we can TTC again, not that I ever want to forget our little boy that we lost but It's just an overwhelming feeling.

Loladoodle · 17/06/2021 14:09

Hi ladies, I’ve just been reading the thread re inositol. Does anyone have the link to the study I’d love to read it.

Wishing @Dddflower a healthy pregnancy and sorry to all who have had such difficult times ❤️

Whatisgoingonhere · 17/06/2021 21:31

Flowers for you too tink553. I remember that feeling of struggling to wait before ttc again! Sorry for your loss

tink553 · 18/06/2021 13:34

@Loladoodle
I have read anything and everything I can find but these are two where helpful, the second one is just a short overview but helped me make sense of it all;

Hope this helps!

tink553 · 18/06/2021 13:39

Thank you so much @Whatisgoingonhere xx

Dddflower · 18/06/2021 19:39

Hey all!

Here is the article that got me thinking about taking the inositol, its worth the read!

www.gosh.nhs.uk/press-releases/inositol-taken-alongside-folic-acid-may-be-most-effective-preventing-neural-tube-defects/

I do wish everyone all the luck and hope for the future, especially when things seem so hopeless. I always remeber with having a TFMR that we made that choice out of love and did it so our son didn't suffer, if he survived the pregnancy/labour anyway. I was also told that any baby/miscarriage/loss you have your body retains some of the babies DNA, so in a comforting way, they are always with you ❤

We found out this baby is a girl, obviously we are thrilled either way. Its time to start trying to enjoy the pregnancy xxx

Bellesjp · 30/09/2021 11:23

Hi all, hope you're all doing ok. I know this is an old thread but have come across it as we have just had to have a TFMR 3 weeks ago :( I have started on 5mg folic acid and also bought some 1000mg isonitol tablets, but wondered how long you took them for before ttc? I know it's not been long for me but keen to start ttc soon as feel like being pregnant is the only thing that will make me feel slightly better after all this

@Dddflower it's so encouraging to hear you were able to get pregnant with a healthy baby after all that you've been through 💕

Dddflower · 30/09/2021 15:59

Im so sorry for your precious loss @Bellesjp. Its such a hard and upsetting time you are going through and I hope you have lots of support. I will be thinking of you and your little one...

I started taking the inositol alongside the 5mg folic acid for 3 months before we ttc. All is still well with this baby and pregnancy. I wish you all the luck in the world xxx

OP posts:
Bellesjp · 30/09/2021 18:25

@Dddflower Thankyou for your reply, I will try and last the whole 3 months, feels like such a long time to wait doesn't it :( I'm doing ok, have good and bad days, the worse is waiting for results to find out what caused my baby's problems, we know problems with brain and heart, curved spine, plus hydrops but have no diagnosis yet and been told could take up to 4 months!

So pleased your rainbow baby is healthy and well 💗 you must be nearly due now xx
