Are these OPKs positive and what are my chances this month?

I'm really confused and very new to this so please bare with me. We are TTC baby #2 and I've just started testing with OPKs this cycle. I always have a 26 day cycle and I'm currently on CD16. I was testing from CD8 and thought I had my peak but had some ovulation pain last night (just after we DTD) so I tested and the top test is how it came out. Tested again this morning and the test line was a little lighter (bottom test). I'm now worried that I might not be able to conceive due to such a short luteal phase as AF due on 31st August which is in11 days. My questions are :

  • are these OPKs positive?
  • if they are positive, when am I most likely to ovulate?
  • if we DTD just before I got a positive OPK, does that mean we have a high chance of getting pregnant or could this be affected by the short luteal phase?

Hi @trullis It is possible that the top one is positive, or very nearly positive, so its possible that you have only just ovulated this month. It might just be that you ovulated late this month and therefore your period will start later too.

You mention that you thought you had already had a peak? When was this? If you have only just ovulated then it might be that your earlier peak was a failed attempt at ovulation (I get these, and some women get several LH surges within a month).

I would highly recommend tracking your temperature, as the OPK's can only track peaks in LH and do not confirm ovulation has taken place. A shift in temperature is the only way to be sure you have ovulated, and you can use the OPK's to work out when to start DTD Grin
