TTC for 6 months - Ovulation test confusion

Hi we have been TTC since March, no luck so far.

I had a Nexplanon implant for around 7 years until May 2019 and then was on the pill until end of Feb this year. My 27 day cycle is very regular, I am almost always exactly on time or half a day early/late. I have also been taking pre-pregnancy vitamins.

I have been regularly testing for ovulation and have never had a positive test apart from during a 3 day period in July when I had several positives. My fertile period should have passed for this month (August) again I did not get any positive ovulation tests. Due to my age (in my 20s) advice is to wait until we have unsuccessfully TTC for 1 year however ovulation test advice is that if a test is always positive or always negative to speak to a GP.

Can someone please offer any advice? Thank you :)
