BBT and ovulation timing

Hi ladies, so I have never chatted my basal body temp before. I’m thinking of ordering one for my next cycle as I’m currently using opk and trying to get my husband to have sex more than once in my fertile window is proving challenging AngryBlush so figure if I can narrow down my window as much as possible so we aren’t DTD too early etc.

So my question is... could all you ladies who use OPK tests AND BBT please write underneath how many days/hours after your first positive OPK you tend to ovulate. Maybe we can see a popular pattern (although everyone can obviously be different)

I usually ovulated the same day as positive opk, for many people it's 24-36 hours later.

Oh really that’s interesting, thanks for that! I honestly turn into such a psycho wondering when I’ve ovulated in relation to my positive opk!

Mine varies. Last cycle I ovulated on the same day (+OPK in the morning, ovulated late evening going by ovulation pains and BBT next morning)... but other cycles I have had a +OPK and BBT has not shown ovulation for 2-3 days after that. I usually try and just keep DTD until I see the BBT rise, so that I know I've covered all bases! Bloody tiring though!

I ovulate the same day as my positive opk too - we've done sperm meets egg in the past - dtd every other day, then every day once you get a positive. It worked first time for us but I miscarried.

Don't wait for a positive until you dtd - my surge is short too - this cycle I tested early afternoon and there was barely a line, tested later in the early evening and I had a blazing positive.

Wow a lot of people ovulating on the same day as the LH surge... interesting as from reading on google it seems to say your more likely to 24-48 hours after!! I think I’m going to need to try bbt!

I’ve heard sperm meets egg but unfortunately hubby works away a lot and is usually too tired to DTD that often! Hence why I thought if I could predict my ovulation each month it might be easier for us!

Im doing bbt for the first time this month.
I use fertility friend app but also keep a paper journal of my cm & opk observations-im a bit of a stationery nerd ha ha!
Tues/wed my bbt started to rise (had 3 consecutive rises) and ff thought i had ovulated-i felt this was too early for me at cd12.

Friday 5pm i did a opk and had a peak result so i hadn't ovulated yet.
Yesterday i had a big temp drop & Last night i had lots of ovulation pain and with the amount of ewcm i knew i was still in my fertile phase.
This morning i had a big temp spike showing that my progesterone is rising-which happens after ovulation.
Have attatched pictures. Hope it helps! Im quite new to this but here to chat if you need it 🙃

You can really use bbt to predict when you'll ovulate, but once you are a few cycles I'm, you can get quite good at reading it.

I've conceived twice whilst temping and using opks (sadly no babies yet) so I definitely recommend it. Just try not to get too obsessed about your chart :)

VenusStarr · 10/08/2020 17:23

can't predict ovulation sorry typing too fast

Chanel05 · 10/08/2020 17:30

@VenusStarr how are you doing these days?

VenusStarr · 10/08/2020 17:35

Hi @Chanel05 👋 still here 😑 had my third loss in February - all my tests are normal, so no answers sadly. I'm doing my nhs funded ivf round next month. I've been prescribed cyclogest to take in the second half of my tww as they think maybe it's a progesterone issue - no luck last cycle, but I'm due to start the pessaries on Wednesday, so testing sometimes next week 🤞 But really just using this time to get as healthy as possible before we do the ivf.

Hope you're doing well? X

Chanel05 · 10/08/2020 22:51

@VenusStarr so sorry to hear of another loss for you and wishing you all the best for your ivf and hopefully before!

I am well, thank you. I'm 35 weeks tomorrow with a baby girl.

Lola19 · 10/08/2020 23:32

Aw thanks so much! I honestly never dreamed the amount of effort you have to put in to try and conceive!! This group is so helpful!
So you got your peak Lh surge on the Friday and ovulated Sunday! I’ve just downloaded the fertility friend app so I’ll get my thermometer ordered tomorrow!

@VenusStarr so sorry to hear about your losses! Thank you for your advice ❤️
