Chemical pregnancy? Help!

Mamainmaking1 · 08/08/2020 09:49

Hi everyone I'm currently having what I suspect is a chemical pregnancy - started spotting brown on Monday after BFP and being one day late for period. Had pregnancy symptoms such as nausea, light headedness etc up to Tuesday mid day and then it all stopped. My lines were getting darker up to Tuesday on a frer (negative clear blue digi later ok tuesday) then from Wednesday the tests were a bit fainter and then stayed the same. Yesterday I started red/dark red bleeding with terrible cramps. The cruel thing aS that just before the bleeding I had took a frer and it was getting fainter ever so slightly but for the first time I got a pregnant 1-2 weeks on the clear blue Sad. I just want to know anyone else experience with this and does this sound like a typical chemical pregnancy? Has anyone had one and went on to quickly have another successful preganncy ? Did anyone take anything such as progesterone to help? What bloods should I be asking the Dr to run ? I also have an under active thyroid. Any help would be really appreciated!

Hi.
Last month I got 2 FRER positives that didn't progress and also 1-2 weeks on clear blue. K started bleeding when AF was due and it unfortunately ended up being a chemical. However fast forward a cycle and I am now currently pregnant again. Test again once bleeding stops. If negative, take some time and try again when you feel ready x

Mamainmaking1 · 08/08/2020 11:08

@Spinksy9 thanks for your advice I am so glad to hear your now in a healthy pregnancy. Did you try straight away again or did you wait for your next period to come and go before trying? I am correct in saying that we don't have to wait for AF before trying again? Thanks

@Mamainmaking1 I feel pregnant again straight away, no period in between. I am only 5w3d approx so i still get nervous when going to to toilet. Just taking each day as it comes x

Littlebee1990 · 08/08/2020 15:30

Last month I got 2 positives and also 1-2 weeks on clear blur digital. 5 days after my period was due I started bleeding and it unfortunately ended up being a chemical. Sadly I didn’t get pregnant the cycle after (AF arrived yesterday) but hoping it’ll happen soon ❤️ So sorry you’re going through it x

Mamainmaking1 · 09/08/2020 11:54

@Spinksy9 so glad you are now pregnant again and you are nearly 6 weeks, I have everything crossed for you that this all works out! The anixety around going to the toilet is awful, it was so high for me every time because I knew it wasn't right for me to be spotting but I kept holding onto hope it would just stop. So I completely get that, i really hope you can relax soon and enjoy your pregnancy. Did you get any spotting at all this time? Fingers crossed it stays well away but I did read it can be very normal early pregnancy. Can you tell me how did you know when to start trying again if you didn't have your period to go by? I am afraid of missing the inbetween ovulation before next period so i might be best just doing ovulation strips each day?

@Littlebee1990 so sorry you are going through the same thing. It is so hard to take even though I only knew I was pregnant for around a week. How are you feeling? Did you start trying again straight away or wait for AF to come and go? Sorry that it didn't work out for you this month but your will be back to full health next cycle ready. I've read your more fertile for around 3-6 months after a miscarriage so atleast we have a boost in fertility to help us along for the next few months! How long did you bleed after the chemical? Im on day 3 and it seems to be easing up alot thank god!!!

GanderousGoose · 09/08/2020 17:01

I've just had the exact same. BFP on FRER, Sainsbury's and IC on Tues. FRER positive and CB digital 1-2 weeks on Weds, didn't test Thurs and then by Friday - everything negative and started bleeding Sat PM, on the day AF was due. So definitely a chemical. @Spinksy9 so good to hear you have conceived again straightaway. Best of luck for a healthy pregnancy!

Littlebee1990 · 09/08/2020 17:12

@Mamainmaking1 My bleeding was just like a normal period for 5 days but instead of a 28 day cycle I had a 38 day cycle after, I’m hoping this period I’m having now helps my body reset xx

Boc86 · 09/08/2020 18:16

I’ve had two chemicals in a row and am now 4dpo and really praying I don’t have another chemical
I didn’t bother waiting between cycles, there’s no way I could have because I’m so desperate to be pregnant
I started taking seven seas trying for a baby, vitamin C, vitamin b6 as I’m having a short luteul phase, aspirin as I have a blood clotting disorder and Brazil nuts which can help with implantation
Feel like I’m spending all day taking tablets but I’ll do anything right now!

Spinksy9 · 09/08/2020 19:00

@Mamainmaking1 my period came on the day it was meant to and lasted 4/5days after I got a digital postive. So as my cycle was the same length as before so just treated as another cycle x

Spinksy9 · 09/08/2020 19:01

@Mamainmaking1 @GanderousGoose thank you! Also no spotting this time....fingers crossed 🤞

Wearewaiting · 09/08/2020 21:53

Hiya, I had a chemical last month after 18 months of trying and no hint of a BFP in that time so was super sad when it didn’t last but we also carried on TTC and I am again pregnant this month, I started spotting last month and then it got very heavy over the next couple days after and then had a negative test. So far so good this month, toilet and knicker checking a lot but taking it one day at a time as only 5 weeks 1 day, wishing you all the best and hope you get your BFP.

@Spinksy9 happy to see that everything is going well for you so far, we spoke briefly on my post before, wishing you well xxx

Mamainmaking1 · 10/08/2020 17:18

@Wearewaiting that is excellent news for you i really hope it all works out for you. I'm sure the constant checking is like a full time job for you and @Spinksy9 but thank goodness for you both all has remained well Smile You both have gave me and I'm sure the other girls some hope for our future cycles!

I am on day 4 of my bleed and it has really started to ease up thankfully. So am I just treating this as if it is day 4 of my cycle like a normal period?

@Boc86 you sound ditto of my situation - I also have very short luteal phase and strangely last month I bleed for around 10 days (so random but I had an internal scan with a gynae consultant so perhaps this caused it) but it meant my ovulation date was knocked back a few days more than normal and it was the month I actually concived. I feel it was due to the fact it had more time to mature, pitty it didn't just stick Sad. I have my fingers crossed for a happy outcome this month for you - what day will you start to test? Smile Have you heard of coq10? I have read good reviews about it also so I was thinking of trying it. Do you take the b6 and vit c on top of your seven seas prenatal? I was taking bud fertility but I think I'm going to change it to one of the main stream prenatals. I've read lots about aspirin, did your Dr tell you to take it or did you research yourself ?

@GanderousGoose so sorry to hear you have recently went through the same thing. I find myself constantly thinking about what could of been - I know that will pass though and I will get back on the TTC wagon. How are you doing?

@Littlebee1990 I really hope for you that your body just needed this extra cycle to get back into the way of things. Are you currently on AF? If so you, me and @ganderousgoose will all be in the ttw around the same time if yous fancy keeping in touch? Smile @boc86 you are a few days ahead but you will definatly have to keep us updated through your TWW!!

OP posts:
GanderousGoose · 10/08/2020 17:47

@Mamainmaking1 I'm doing ok, thanks for asking :-). I was sad for a couple of days but feel like I have rationalised it a bit now. Would be great to keep in touch for TWW! I think I will be testing around 5 Sep. Going to really try not to test early...

Littlebee1990 · 10/08/2020 17:48

@Mamainmaking1 Yup day 4 of AF for me too so we’re def cycle twins! I’m hoping for a 28 day cycle this month though and not the 38 days after the chemical pregnancy! Really hope you’re feeling ok. I just keep worrying there’s something wrong with me and it’s not going to happen! I quit smoking years ago and had a few cigarettes the day AF arrived because I was so upset and now I’ve convinced myself I’ve ruined it by doing that!!!

Mamainmaking1 · 10/08/2020 18:46

@GanderousGoose I completely get how are you feeling, even though I kind of knew it was coming I was still sad and really frustrated when it happened as I just felt like my body let me down.
@Littlebee1990 you can't beat yourself up as I had done that after I started to loose pregnancy symptoms I had cleaned the bathroom from top to bottom using lots of bleach products etc and soon after that I felt a real decline in symptoms (strange how the body works) and felt it was caused by the fumes and my over activity but in reality I had started to spot the previous day! There are people out there that smoke and drink for weeks and weeks before they even realise they are pregnant and stop and some continue to smoke even through their pregnancy so a few cigarettes to drown your sorrows cant have done much harm and you will resist them the next time just like if I get another BFP I will resist the urge to bleach everywhere in sight to pass the time Grin lol. My cycles are really short they are 22 days usually so I usually ovulate around day 8-10 - will be interesting to see if this makes any difference to my cycle like it did to yours.

I don't know about yous but I think it's so easy to live in constant cycles when TTC, I feel a lull when AF arrives and I am waiting for ovulation etc as there is nothing I can actively do to concieve. I felt a real purpose to each day when I was pregnant as I knew that each day that passed meant I was getting closer to a scan atleast to check how everything was and a relief that I wouldnt be having to live in cycles and could enjoy the next 9 months. Did anyone else feel like that? Think that is the bit that is getting me the most , I keep saying that I would have over 5 weeks over me by now if I was still pregnant, really have to get that out of my head and move on.

Spinksy9 · 10/08/2020 20:04

@Wearewaiting congratulations!! Fingers crossed for us both! We are roughly 5/6 days behind each other!

Wearewaiting · 11/08/2020 08:28

@Mamainmaking1 thank you and I hope you get that sticky BFP, be easy on yourself as it’s a hard thing to go through, and if you feel ready to carry on this month then defo give it a try! 😘
@Spinksy9 congratulations to you too! Defo a big fingers crossed! Oh we are quite close, I’ve just cautiously joined a April 2021 group xx

Spinksy9 · 11/08/2020 10:39

@Wearewaiting I havent joined any groups yet as waiting for my private scan on Friday. My birthday is in April and I share it with my nan so its a lucky month i think! 🤞🤞

Boc86 · 11/08/2020 12:58

@Mamainmaking1 yes I’ve heard of coq10 but haven’t looked into what it does or anything
I researched aspirin myself but the doctor agreed it couldn’t hurt
I’m 6dpo now and have my 7DPO bloods tomorrow to check my progesterone levels in case that’s the problem with my short luteul phase
Due on Friday/Saturday so will test Sunday if I haven’t come on, I’ve never got past 10dpo. Sunday would be 11dpo

Yes that’s correct with it being cd4 of your next cycle x

Morgane777 · 11/08/2020 16:49

Hi, can I join?
I just found out I had my second chemical in a row :(
Now I'm waiting for AF to arrive and start another cycle.
I was on progesterone after ovulation both times but that didn't help anyway.
Have you ever asked your doctors what are possible causes (besides chromosomal abnormalities?)

Mamainmaking1 · 12/08/2020 10:53

@Morgane777 hi of course you are very welcome!! So sorry to hear about your second chemical - it is so rubbish I think I'm only really gathering myself again now and even at that I still get twinges of frustration and disappointment so I can relate to how you are feeling! Are you going to wait to your next period comes and goes before trying again? I have just finished bleeding from the chemical and I'm now tracking ovulation as I intend to try before next period comes and goes. I haven't went to the Dr as I am afraid it will knock me of the waiting list I am on for fertility treatment - I did ring the Dr and the receptionist recorded it but i never went in for bloods to actually confirm. So annoying how many things you have to balance navigating through this. I have defo thought of going private so I may have the option of progesterone though, how did you find it? What were you progesterone levels that lead to you being given it? I think part of my problems is a short cycle and I worry my lining isn't thick enough. I had proper pregnancy symptoms so I know something defiantly started to happen but then they just eased off as I started to spot. Are you thinking of getting testing done?

OP posts:
Welliedays · 12/08/2020 11:28

I had a chemical last month, after getting a positive frer two days before. We've tried again straight away, but I have no idea when my ovulation is, so whether we've been dtd when we're meant to is anyone's guess. I did do a test today to keep the EPU happy that the chemical was definitely a chemical and it was negative .. But I knew it was as I had symptoms which then completely stopped while I was bleeding. If my ovulation date is right (based on flo which is usually fairly accurate for me) I'd be about 7 or 8dpo today so I'm still holding out hope that I might get a BFP this month (but I'm not feeling the same as last month, so I'm not sure!!)

Mamainmaking1 · 12/08/2020 12:36

@Welliedays so sorry to hear about your chemical last month they are the worst!!! So nice to have so many women coming to this chat though with their experiences and knowing we aren't the only ones. How far along where you when you had your chemical? The EPU were pretty unhelpful to me they just said they wouldn't be able to see anything so no point coming over and it could be a miscarriage but would just be a case of waiting to see. I then started heavily bleeding about an hour later so I haven't contacted them since! Do you use ovulation sticks to check when you are on your peak? I find them really helpful as mine tends to change a few days each month and they are cheap on Amazon. I use the easy @ home ones and I record them on the premom app which read thems via photo and tells you when you are low, high and peak. How long after chemical did you begin dtd to TTC? I really hope this is you and @Boc86 month - sounds like you will both be testing round the same time?

I didn't really feel any different early on last month I just noticed I wasn't moody approaching my period and then I started getting random bursts of nausea and lightheadedness but I didn't even suspect anything because it was a very busy month. It might be still early to be feeling any symptoms yet?

Morgane777 · 12/08/2020 13:21

@Mamainmaking1 thanks for your support! It is indeed so sad and frustrating. It took me 11 cycles of trying to get pregnant and when I finally got pregnant twice, it ending in a chemical is really frustrating. I am trying again right away. I'm 39 years old, so no time to waste. I'm on fertility treatment, though. I'm in Montreal (Canada).
I used to spot a lot after ovulation and before AF and had a really short cycle (23 to 24 days and my luteal phase was 10 or 11 days with constant spotting). I told my doctor many times but he didn't seem to worry about it. The last few months he finally decided to give me progesterone (vaginal capsules) and my spotting stopped and well, I got pregnant (not right away, but I think that helped).
It is indeed a difficult journey, but I'm trying to keep a positive spirit and hope that next time we'll be lucky!
I read somewhere that after a chemical we are more fertile! So maybe you should continue trying and when you get the chance, talk to your doctor about your short cycle. How many days is your luteal phase?

Welliedays · 12/08/2020 13:28

@mamainmaking1 I found them really unhelpful too tbh. They got my weeks wrong too so that hasn't helped, I know they can't do anything before 6 weeks as they can't detect a heartbeat until then, but still weren't any use! I treated the first day of the bleed as day 1 of my cycle and then started dtd was it was over - which also coincided with my wedding day, so we had a busy honeymoon 😂 and now I'm half way through the tww. I think, from how my body is that I did ovulate last week around when I thought I should.. But I think I'll need to start doing tests to know for sure. We are going to have to stop trying of next month doesn't work and then try again from probably May onwards, so really hoping to get a sticky one this time or next!

I keep trying to remmeber what my symptoms were last time, but then of course each and every time can be different anyway!
