First steps at infertility clinic

We had our first appointment at an NHS infertility clinic the week before lockdown. Obviously things then got delayed but I've now had further blood tests, an HSG and an internal ultrasound.

Not sure on results from blood tests (but the bloods I had done at the GP last summer came back "normal"), apparently there was nothing untoward shown on the HSG (tubes aren't blocked) or the ultrasound I had today (womb lining and ovaries look "normal").

If you got to this stage with essentially unexplained infertility, what was your first stage of intervention? We have a telephone consultation next week so we're trying to prepare.

Any experiences / insights would be really useful 👍

Hi,

My DH and I were in a very similar situation a few years ago and totally understand what you may be going through.

For us, what followed was a number of tests and appointments whilst they tried to hone in on what was causing the issue.

We attended the appointments and after some time decided to try IUI with a private fertility clinic. Whilst not free, it was not hugely expensive (compared to IVF) and allowed things to move quicker.

We had our Daughter in October 2018 and life has been amazing since.

Whatever happens, rest assured that there is always support available and your options will be laid out in front of you as you embark down your journey.

Also, try not to worry too much!

Hi @lankyliscuits

My situation sounds very similar to yours, I have another appt next week to discuss next steps.

How did yours go, have you got a plan now?

Same. Next step for us after my tests was sperm analysis for my partner - he had 2 as the first one wasn't good but the second one was even worse. So we now know that we have to have IVF with ICSI to give it the best chance of working. Waiting to start treatment in November.
