Ok! Sooooo....

I could do with some help here!

I haven’t had a period since May 23rd 2020 and have been taking tests every few weeks and they’ve been negative.

On Monday of this week (3/08/2020) I took a first response test and within 30 seconds a strong second line appeared!
Now, I’ve been actively trying for 5 years and have had endometriosis diagnoses and removal last year.
So I was soo over the moon- my sister was with me and is 14 weeks pregnant herself and I’d given her the test as I didn’t want to see another negative.
Sure as ever- 30 seconds and she’s screaming “your pregnant, there’s a line!” I cried tears of joy thinking I’d never have another child!
I told hubby (not that he could tell what I was saying as I was crying like a baby 🤣)

Here comes the strange part:
Later that night he said- just confirm it with the second test (it was a pack of 2)
I poas again and it was completely negative 😟
Not a faint line- not even an evap line!
My world came crashing down!
I rushed to Tesco to pick up a clear blue 2 pack- a normal and a digital. I took one late that night (midnight) NEGATIVE
And one early the next morning-NEGATIVE!

I had a phone consultation with the dr and they requested a urine sample and sent that off- NEGATIVE.

I have been falling asleep midday, I feel extremely nauseated and have done for weeks and have mild cramping in low abdominal area.

I just wanted some hope or advise I guess! I was so over the moon thinking I’d conceived and no it seems my life has come crashing down!

Anyone ever faced this?
My mum is like “you can’t get a false positive “
But I know you can get them it’s just very rare- and knowing my luck, it was bound to happen to me! 😟

I'm sorry I don't have much advice to give but when I lost my virginity I felt disgusted and slightly traumatised after because the person wasn't 'the one'. My period came over two weeks later but I was convinced I was pregnant, I had sore boobs, felt sick and everything. I went to a clinic and got properly tested turns out I wasn't pregnant. I hope you are pregnant as you seem like you really want a baby.

Thank you! I do really want it!!
Unfortunately my dr has decided that because the urine they sent off was negative that they don’t want to help with anything else! Which doesn’t help at all! Was it a blood test that confirmed your pregnancy or urine? Xx

Where did you buy the First Response tests? I'm sorry to say that there are a lot of fakes that give unreliable (false positive) results.
Those bought from 3rd party sellers on Amazon, eBay, or from other unknown online retailers can often be fake.

Really sorry that you're going through this Thanks

Luckily I had them from boots lovely!

Thank you for that though! I’m resigning myself to the fact that it was a dud test 😟

I’m so saddened by it! I still have hope though as I’m still experiencing symptoms and AF still hasn’t arrived so I’m not out until she makes an appearance I guess! Or that’s what I’m telling myself 🤣

It's quite frustrating not knowing to be honest. I'm glad I wasn't pregnant with the person I lost my virginity to because he was NOT the one even though we used the right contraception I was still paranoid. The pregnancy I'm in now I could just feel it I KNEW I was pregnant, I took a clear blue normal one and digital. Digital told me I was 3 weeks pregnant. I'm praying for you and hope that you will have a beautiful baby one day. xx

I’m a GP. There’s been a recent batch this year of false positives happening with pregnancy tests - mainly the ones with the pink lines.

Do you have any gynae history other than endometriosis or are your cycles or normally irregular? If not then your GP should investigate you for your missed periods - over 3 months is usually the cut off for doingbloods/scan etc. However if you e already been trying for 5 years I assume you’ve already been down that route and been under a fertility clinic? If not you should be.

Amiflaherty · 06/08/2020 14:51

I think it was a dodgy test Vinoelle unfortunately
The gp didn’t ring with my results just the receptionist so when I asked about what I do moving forward she didn’t know! I have rang to speak to someone today and they have said they can’t precook any appointments and that I need to call again tomorrow to see if they have an appointment!
I am under a consultant for endometriosis and have left a message with them also to see what happens next. I saw the GP about fertility 18 mo this a go and he told me that because it would be my second child (I have a 7 year old) I wouldn’t be classed as high priority.
I’ve had awful communication over the last 5 years to be honest and I’m getting nowhere! I’m at a loss all round lately 😟

I do also have a Gynae history from age 17- various cysts on ovaries- some of which have haemorrhaged and had to have part of my left ovary removed. I have always suffered with what they thought was menorrhagia until Endo was finally diagnosed! I was told for 7 years that I just had heavy periods and had to deal with it!

Depending on your area you will unfortunately likely not be eligible for certain fertility treatments, but you can ask for investigations (hormone blood tests & US) from your Gp into your irregular periods. Depending on the cause, if found/ if it is treatable, you may still be eligible for referral to fertility clinic for certain things, just not IVF as that’s pretty much nationwide if you already have a child you won’t be funded again on the Nhs. You can check your local policy by googling your CCG

Thank you so much! I will try my very best! Xxx
