Smear tests and TTC

Hello I’ve had a letter to say my smear test is due, I am currently TTC CD13 I don’t want to go for one if it’s harmful in what will be the tww so my question is I suppose is it harmful and should I try get an app after af arrived (which no doubt it will I’m on month 11ttc) and stopped?

Hi, I am not medical myself so not 100% sure but I think they like to rule out pregnancy before having a smear test. A friend of mine got a letter for a smear test and she was pregnant and they said she wouldn’t need to have it until after the baby was born. I’m not sure if it would be harmful to a pregnancy but I have heard that they like to postpone it because the results of the smear may be less accurate. I would ring your gp and explain the situation about tww.

A few weeks won't make a difference, I'd just book the appt for when af would be finished (🤞🏻it doesn't come!!!).
If you are pregnant you can just book it for 12 weeks post delivery ☺️

Not sure if they're harmful but they don't do them when you're pregnant. I'd just book it for after your period is due and before ovulation. Do they have to be booked at a certain point in your cycle anyway..? I've never had one whilst having periods so I don't know.

Are they even doing smear test at the minute? I’m in a similar situation about to start TTC and had smear test letter just before lockdown. All I’ve heard so far is that they’d stopped doing them because of COVID

They postponed a cycle at my fertility clinic because of the smear test.

The letter says they have started back now just received it today.

I think I’ll phone once again arrives and try get it booked for after it’s stopped and before ovulation.

I don’t like the idea they could be swiping away something that’s trying to stick lol I have no clue if they are even close to it just in my head that’s how it is lol

@Timetotry123 I’m the same and wouldn’t want a smear if there was any chance I could be pregnant. Too close for comfort

@Timetotry123 the smear isn't up inside your uterus which is where implantation occurs, just on the surface of your cervix I think. Not sure if they do just inside the opening of the cervix though? Think it makes perfect sense to wait until after the TWW though :)

Yes I think I will just to be on the safe side :)
