What really changes at this point compared to when you’re under 30...

Did anybody experience a noticeable struggle to conceive after 30 compared to under 30. Mainly want to know between 30 and 35.

Did you do anything to try harder or make the conscious effort to eliminate certain things from your diet other than booze and smoking.

x

Caffeine. Cut it completely. Cola and coffee.

Hi, I took 4 cycles to conceive DS1 when I was 26, was very fit and did a sport at a competitive level as well as ate well and didn't smoke, plus was lovely and rested pre parenthood lol which I think has made a difference as I just dont have the energy to DTD as often as I did then. I concieved the first cycle that I used OPKs and Preseed.

This time at 31 its taken alot longer, but with sporadic DTD that hasn't been timed around ovulation and I'm definitely not as fit, rested or healthy and alot more stressed. I think we started not using contraception before Christmas and only got a BFP last month, which was the first month of using OPKs again, so I think I was missing ovulation most months.

Unfortunately I had an early loss at 5 weeks that time but have now just had another BFP this month, really early days as im only 4 weeks and terrified that it will me another early loss. Not going to lie, I have wondered if age might be a factor there along with everything else but as far as I can tell age hasn't massively affected actually getting pregnant for me, its mostly been down to pinpointing ovulation both times.

Sorry thats really long.

I have cut down from 3/4 cups of tea to one a day. If I want more it’s decaf only

Don’t drink fizzy juice at all now, not so much for caffeine but just don’t fancy it anymore

Opks I’ve always used but never confirmed ovulation as don’t temp/chart

Feels like things are harder since I’ve turned 30 or maybe it’s just me overthinking

Csari - I’m very sorry for your loss. I had a chemical pregnancy in March, only pregnant for 5 days and then started bleeding on the day I was due my period. It was a very strange time and absolutely floored me, never felt such confusion like it before.

One day I’m pregnant and the next I’m not, but without any explanation or reason.

Funnily enough I never knew chemical pregs were a thing until I read on mumsnet last year. Had I not tested so early I’d never even know there was a potential pregnancy trying to implant

We got pregnant as a surprise at 32 so I changed nothing Grin then at 35 I did find once I'd cut caffeine down that's when I got my bfp, did only take 4 months after a Mc though so don't think that's too long and out Mc was on the first month properly trying with clear blue ovulation tests so at 31 I don't think you need to worry Smile xx

Took me over a year TTC at 28-29.
First time worked at 23.

Thankful for both my DC. Youngest is 6m now and I've just turned 30. Not confident I would even conceive for a 3rd time now in my 30s given previous struggle.

passthegin1234 · 02/08/2020 08:27

Took me 3 cycles when I was 28 and 1 cycle when 31. I think some of it is down to luck. We did the SMEP and used pre seed second time around. Could just be coincidence. I was a lot fitter, healthier and less tired at 28 too!

ivfdreaming · 02/08/2020 08:38

Between ages of 31 and 36 after I had my daughter I had 5 miscarriages and 2 ruptured ectopics - lost both tubes and left totally infertile. Had to embark on 5 rounds of IVF (and £35k spent) now pregnant with twins........

But my case reads like a car crash - some people will be lucky and fall pregnant naturally well into their 40s but in my friendship group and even amongst acquaintances that is the exception rather than the norm and I would say 75% struggled once they got to 35 and over to conceive

Penhaligon · 02/08/2020 09:10

Took me 2 months to conceive at 28.
Took 10 months to conceive at 32.

Following with interest - best of luck OP!

I tried smep for the first time this cycle, ran out of fuel by the time I had positive opks but managed to try, skipped the extra day at the end though

elliejjtiny · 02/08/2020 12:49

Took a year to get pregnant aged 22/23. Got pregnant by accident at 31 and 32.

NoodleKT · 02/08/2020 13:44

I got pregnant with my first at 29 after around 4 months TTC. Currently trying for number 2 (at 32) and we are on month 9 after a miscarriage in November.
Not sure if it's my age of any other number of reasons but it's definitely harder this time and taking it's toll on me!
