Trimethoprim - panicked

Hi

Currently DPO 13 after a chemical pregnancy last month. Have been ovulation testing but only flashy and no peak yet. We have been DTD quite a bit over the last week and today woke up with an awful UTI. Took trimethoprim which I have on standby from previous UTI episodes and now read awful scare stories on internet re: effect of trimethoprim on first trimester of pregnancy. Now I don't think I am pregnant, not least as no peak ovulation yet (and let's just say won't be DTD for a few days now!) But I'm so panicked in case. Will try and call GP on Monday but have others ever done similar when TTC/in early pregnancy and were things OK? Thanks!

This hasn’t happened to me but I don’t think you need to worry. I’m confused if you are 13 days post ovulation or cycle day 13. Even if - worst case scenario- you are 13 days post ovulation and you are pregnant it’s unlikely the embryo will have imbedded yet. So no contact with your blood supply. Even if it has it gets all its nutrition from the yolk sac for the first few weeks so very unlikely that the trimethoprim will have been in contact at all. The half life of trimethoprim is pretty short so it will be fully excreted soon.

If you are 13 dpo then do a frer if it’s negative then you can be fully reassured. If it’s positive congratulations - I really don’t think this will affect the fetus at this stage.

Hope you feel better soon - UTIs are the worst.

Thank you so much @moo678 . Really reassuring. And yes I've got all my terminology wrong- only 13 days into cycle so don't think I've even ovulated this month yet!

Typically got a static smiley today. Last time DTD on Friday. Dont think I fancy doing DTD again at mo given UTI. Should I force it or just leave it this month knowing that probably haven't done enough?
