Fluoxetine?

First post here !!
I currently take fluoxetine 20mg daily and was looking to try to conceive. I have been taking fluoxetine for 5 months now and I feel better than I have felt for years. I really don’t want to stop taking it as some days I do still feel quite low. Has anyone got any advice or experience of choosing to remain On fluoxetine throughout pregnancy ? I’ve read soooo much information online but just looking for real life experiences of this ? Thanks in advance

@MrsSugar unfortunately I was in a position back in February that I needed to to back on antidepressants and was given Fluoxetine because I was TTC. I fell pregnant in March and was assured that it was safe it to take. I even asked a gynae consultant. Of course in the end it's really up to you and how comfortable you feel staying on them. I know if I came off them at the minute I would be scared of how my mood would change so it's definitely not an option for me, the pros to me staying on it outweigh the cons!

@MrsSugar that should say POSSIBLE cons!

I took them, I think a higher dose than that, my dd will be 12 next month so it’s been a while!

My gp said they were ok to stay on and it was much better for me to be stable. I also took them whilst breastfeeding.

Thanks so much for the replies. I have discussed with my GP who has advised it’s not advisable for me to come off fluoxetine but at same time most doctors would say it’s better to not take medication in pregnancy although it’s one of the safer antidepressants to be on. I feel like no one wants to say it’s okay to stay on it. I have read and read and read so much information and for me the pros truly do outweigh the cons at this moment in time. I just wanted to hear some real life experiences as I don’t really want to openly tell people a- that I’m on medication and b- that I’m considering trying to conceive ! Thank you

@MrsSugar honestly people won't outright tell you to stay on it in case something happens and you may end up blaming them and the medication when it's highly unlikely that they actually do any damage. So take it with a pinch of salt that doctors would recommend not being on fluoxetine. The dangerous ones they will always give a definite no.
