Ovulation question

Hi all, first post! This is my first month ttc and am using ovulation predictor kits. I have a 28 day regular cycle (did not use any hormonal contraception before) and therefore should ovulate on day 14. I am on day 12 of my cycle and peeing on the ovulation stock since day 10. I have not had any lh surge or any line come up (other than the control) is this normal or should I be seeing something by now?

Most women actually ovulate on CD16 so don't assume it's day 14 even on a 28 day cycle :)

It differs from woman to woman and sometimes cycle to cycle tbh. I'm now on my 7th day of a line without a peak whereas other cycles I've gone low one day to high the next noon, peaked by the evening and back to low the next day. So don't worry!

Remember to increase your testing though once the line gets a bit stronger (to 2-3 times per day) as the surge can be as short as 4h and easy to miss otherwise.

Hi to be honest with you as your cycle is regular and it’s only the first month, I wouldn’t get too hung up over testing ovulation because they sometimes can be wrong.

Your getting no second line whatsoever?

@Maggiewotsit i will try not to get too engaged in the testing aspect and try to just go with the flow. I didn't realise that they could also be off with regard to the Opk.

@willithappen nope only a single line. And I use the fermometer app and it says lh 0%. I mean if I squint I see a super faint second line but it's basically non existent. Is that abnormal?

I have attached a snapshot of mine that show some variation on the days. I would think if you are a regular 28 day cycle you would at least have something showing up.

Sounds silly to ask but it's deffo ovulation sticks you are using yeah? The cheapy pregnancy ones and opks usually look like similar (to me anyway haha)

I think I only have squinters until I get closer to OD tbh.

As for OPK accuracy - it's not that they're inaccurate per se - but can be affected by things such as PCOS. A fair amount of women will also have more than one surge in a month but stop tracking after the first one, falsely believing they've ovulated, that kind of thing.

Best thing is BBT combined with OPKs but I only got to that by cycle 6 lol so maybe hold off on that for now 😉

@willithappenthabka for attaching your pictures. It gave some perspective. I'm definitely using ovulation sticks as I got both pregnancy and ov sticks in the pack but they are coloured differently so can't mix them up.

@Juno231i don't think I have PCOS but who knows! I think I'll carry on with just opk and see what happens not quite ready to bbt etc yet. Glad that you also have just squinters! I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for your help

@Pinklilly oh yeah I didn't mean to imply you had pcos, just explaining why some people think OPKs don't work :)

@Juno231 oh no I knew what you meant regarding pcos. Thanks so much for attaching your picture so your cycle day 14 and 15 is exactly how mine looks now at cd12. So reassuring to see how yours changed. Thanks alot. My husband and I are still doing the deed every other day for now as tbh we don't know quite all the details but I just thought we can have fun until (if) it peaks!
