Supplement help for CM

Hi all,

Some very silly questions from me today, please help if you can :)

I’ve been TTC for 2 years now, no luck :(
I’m currently taking wellwoman supplements as they seem to have all the b vitamins and folic acid thats needed in them. Is that ok or would you recommend a switch?

Also, I’ve just heard about preseed and omega supplements for CM. Anyone have any advice about how much omega to take and which brand is best? Also I’ve heard that it shouldn’t be taken after ovulation, is this true? I have no idea when I ovulate as I have PCOS and temping, OPK’s etc don’t work for me.

Also heard about grapefruit juice helping CM? Any experiences?

I’m basically thinking of trying preseed and omega three and grapefruit this cycle because I am at my wits end and desperate for a BFP so any advice would be appreciated :)

Thank you everyone :) xx

I use zipvit 2000mg of omega 3 a day. I also drink grapefruit juice during the FP for CM and I take 2000mg of evening primrose oil for it too (EPO is meant to be really potent for CM) . The only one you need to stop taking after ovulation is the EPO, although I stop the grapefruit juice as well as it doesn't really serve a purpose in the LP.

I would add that omega 3 is really important even not in relation to CM so should be taken regardless. It improves egg quality, increases blood flow to the uterus and if you manage to get OH to take it too it also improves sperm quality.

I forgot to add that since adding those supplements I have lots of ewcm and don't need to use pre-seed anymore!

Have you been to the gp to start tests btw?

AmesK · 15/07/2020 12:57

@Juno231 Ooh thank you! I will order some omega 3 to try and kick start things.

Yes I’ve had all the tests and they do show a lot of issues that I am competing against- PCOS, endometriosis (for which I had surgery this year) and OH has just had the speed analysis last week.
My day 21 tests two months in a row have shown I am ovulating but slight difference between FSH and LH. So I don’t really know how much these things will help me given my situation but I am desperate to try anything that might give me a chance, if that makes sense?

How much grapefruit juice do you drink? (I do find it very sour hahah) and in terms of omega 3, can I continue that all month?

Thanks so much for you help xx

@amesk I have a glass of it a day but have no clue if it does anything to be honest as I kind of started taking all of it at once. I have a feeling it's the EPO and Omega that's the big help though, so feel free to skip the grapefruit juice if you don't like it! And yup from what I know you can take omega 3 throughout the month, it's the EPO that has to stop on O-day.

Are you on metformin for the PCOS at all? From what I gather, a low GI diet might be a good shout as people with PCOS often have insulin resistance which then affects fertility. Could be worth a shout?

I'm currently reading "it starts with the egg" and there's a whole section on how to improve your egg quality/fertility with PCOS. Definitely worth reading if you're at your wits end.

@Juno231 Thank you so much for this :) I will get started on these bits and look up this book!

I am on metformin- 1 gram twice a day now and will start to look up a low GI diet- I need to make some changes :)

@Juno231 There are a lot of fish oil supplements out there but I’m assuming that the basic ones are not good because of the vitamin a content?
