How long after m/c can you still get false positives?

I m/c in August (at 6wks) and have just tested positive. But I don't feel pregnant at all.

If I date cycle from the m/c I would be about 6 wks pregnant now.

Thanks

So sorry to here about your MC, I have heard that the hormones can take up to two months to leave your system.

Can I just ask though if you don't feel PG why are you doing a PG test? Is it just to see if your hormones are still there or is there a chance you could have concieved?

If you could have concieved I'd say go see your GP as six weeks after an early MC does seem like quiet a while for the hormones to still be present.

Hi DofNB
Think it might be worth a visit to the docs.
Choc x

pixie - tested because we've been TTC and it's 6 wks since m/c and no period either.

I know that hcg levels can hang around but didn't know how long for - and I'm trying not to count my chickens...

(Actually I don't need to count my chickens because I know very well that there are 5 of them plus a cockerel)

take a look at this answer

I found it via google hope it helps. I'd say it could mean that either your womb hasn't been cleaned out properly and are still producing HCG or it could mean that you've gotten a BFP

Really hope its the later for you, but I'd say pop to the GP's and or test again in two weeks.

Thanks pixie - I am 41 days post m/c which is beyond the average 9-35 days mooted. I'll go and see my GP next week.

Good luck - hope it is good news.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it is highly likely to still be residual hcg in your system causing the + test result. I have had 2 mc one at 9 weeks the other at 14 weeks and in both cases I was still getting positives 7 or 8 weeks after the ERPC. I think the only way to be 100% sure if this is a new pg is to ask your GP to do a blood test - if hcg is rising after the second test (usually 2 days later) then it is a new pg, if falling then it will be your previous one on its way out. Good luck, I do hope it is a real positive - I know from my own experience that I was desperate to get pg again straightaway, and in fact I did - I have a 15 month old and now 7 weeks pregnant again.

Duchessofnorksbride - I remember you having the m/c because it was soon after mine.

I m/cd at 7 weeks and 4 weeks later had a negetive pregnancy test, then my period turned up 2 hours later. We were also TTC and I was disappointed.

I think you need to go to your GP.

Wishing you all the best. Let us know the result.

TheDuchessOfCorpseBride · 05/10/2007 14:44

bumping for belgo et al

TheDuchessOfCorpseBride · 05/10/2007 19:59

Thanks all!

Having started the thread because I didn't 'feel' pregnant, I blardy well do now! I am so sick and so tired it's untrue. Far worse than in my previous pregnancies. Ah well, no doubt it will soon pass...

pixie04 · 05/10/2007 20:03

so how many weeks are you?

TheDuchessOfCorpseBride · 05/10/2007 20:41

They're dating from my m/c for now - which makes me 7 weeks. I have an ultrasound for nuchal etc in 3 weeks and they may adjust the date then. They didn't take any measurements today, just found the heartbeat and said 'yes you are'.

belgo · 07/10/2007 10:48

that's great news duchessofcorpse!
congratulations
