Wish I could TTC!

My DH and I have decided to start trying from next summer onwards. Reasons for not doing so beforehand relate to being eligible for occupational mat pay, sorting out furnishing our new home etc

We are mid 30s and I have felt ready for a baby for years now. I have been with my DH for over 10 years so don’t feel like we need any more couple time before a baby comes along! If anything I feel like something is missing. Not from our relationship, we love each other and enjoy each other’s company but i suppose it is natural that we feel in a place where we want to become a family unit.

I didn’t mind delaying TTC until next year as we planned to get some nice holidays in, as well as focus on sorting our house. But then COVID happened, so no holidays this year.

I guess with life slowing down/coming to a halt I have been thinking more about babies and a year feels like a long time to wait! From DH’s perspective, trying before next summer is a no go.

Has anyone found themselves in a similar position?

I can really sympathise that is disappointing that you can’t start trying sooner. I think being eligible for occupational mat pay is a big one though, you don’t want to miss out on that if you’re going to be eligible next year. When next year are you thinking of trying? This year is almost half over at least! :)

Next year sounds like forever, but 2020 is literally disappearing, I can't believe it's July already. Knowing TTC is coming gives you a good opportunity to get your body ready. What contraception are you on? Coming off hormonal and moving onto other contraception is a good idea to get your body used to ovulating again. Doing any other health things (quitting smoking/sorting out weight etc if any of that applies!), Making sure you're getting your vitamins in.

More importantly, while your "pre-baby" list had been holidays, maybe there's other things you want to do before kids - enjoy a Friday night drinking wine in front of the telly, have a long lie in at the weekend, just get in the car and go for a drive somewhere for fun. I had plans which included wearing my ridiculous shoes out drinking one night. Absolutely silly stuff!
