How long to conceive second after conceiving quickly the first time?

Hi ladies,
My daughter has just turned one and I am thinking about when to try and conceive our second child.
My husband is happy to go for it whenever but I'm more of a forward thinker. We don't have grandparent childcare so my daughter is going to nursery the 3 days which I am
Working. I understand when she is 3 she should be entitled to 30hours free.
I don't want to be paying for 2 lots of childcare in an ideal world.
We conceived our first baby within 6 weeks can I ask how long it took other to conceive their second, if their first was pretty quick?
I know there's no perfect time I'm just thinking out loud 😂

How old are you op? The reason I ask is that I conceived my first quickly. I was 34 when I gave birth, however couldn't conceive a second. We tried for 18 months and it didn't happen. We had all the tests and there was no medical reason why. My go said it was probably due to my age. I didn't want to go through ivf but chose to adopt instead.

It came as a shock we couldn't have a second child naturally as it took no time at all for the first.

You will only know when you start trying I'm afraid. As a PP said sometimes second babies are much harder than first.

Or you may fall first time.

Conceived 1st baby naturally (and easily) at 33. Never been able to conceive a 2nd. Several rounds of (failed) IVF.

First conceived as soon as we stopped contraception. The second attempt 7 months! It really is a lottery.

Spottybluepyjamas · 08/07/2020 13:22

First was conceived in cycle 1, and when my son was 13 months we conceived again the first cycle (but had a MC at 11 weeks) - still trying for number 2! It's cycle 3 after MC now. You just never know!

I was very lucky in that I conceived both my children in the first month of 'trying', but I did use the ovulation tracker app 'Flo'

Good luck :)

My DD was first time, I'm now on cycle 6 and will be cycle 7 once AF arrives! I personally wouldn't put it off. I wish we had started to try sooner.

Conceived baby #1 in cycle 3 at age 28. Baby #2 in the first cycle of trying at age 29. Assumed #2 would take longer or at least as long as the first so I didn’t want to wait just in case.

I know what you mean about childcare though. We’ll have to pay for 2 at the same time 3 days a week (17 month age gap) but at least they will be at similar stages and can play together while at home.

My second took about a year and half but i think it was due to having a huge gap between my first (18 years).. my third i fell 2 weeks after starting trying and fourth was about the same.. theres no way of knowing.. i thought i was never going to conceive my second then i fell so fast with my third.. everyones different

JustAPassingFashion · 08/07/2020 14:02

I was pregnant by the second months of trying with my first, it took around 8 months with my second.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 08/07/2020 14:06

First cycle trying for all 3 dc. I was 31, 33 and 36. I do have friends who conceived easily twice but have been unable to have a third.

JassyRadlett · 08/07/2020 14:09

First baby conceived on the first cycle. Two years of trying (incl early miscarriage)before a second pregnancy stuck.

okiedokieme · 08/07/2020 14:13

It doesn't actually work that way - don't start trying until you are ready because it could be the first cycle (was for me). Nobody knows how long!

Teacup34 · 08/07/2020 14:14

It took us 2 months of trying with our 2nd and 3 months with our third.

userabcname · 08/07/2020 14:48

Dc1: first time we tried
Dc2: 8 months

ellenpartridge · 08/07/2020 15:22

There's no way of knowing until you try.

With our daughter it was the second cycle of trying, no issues at all.

She is now 3 and we've been trying for a second for 18 months with one miscarriage during that time.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 08/07/2020 15:31

First conceived 1st cycle, I was 25. Started TTC when he turned 1, he's now 6.5 years old and I'm 8 weeks pregnant. It was a very, very long 5 and a half years. This one is due a month before I turn 33.

20viona · 08/07/2020 16:05

Thanks everyone. I know it's a lottery I was just curious and it's interesting and a little worrying that the second conception can take so long , if ever at all. To the poster who asked my age Me and my husband are both 30.
Food for thought!

First child unplanned,,,
18 years later with different partner, conceived immediately but had mc @10 weeks. Tried again, conceived 2nd month. When she was 1 we tried again and never managed to get pregnant again. Have been contraception free now for 9 years with no hint of a baby.
So, try when you feel ready and hope for the best!

SlipperyLizard · 08/07/2020 16:14

DD1 took two cycles, DD2 I was pregnant within a month of stopping the pill (so had only had usual withdrawal bleed). I was quite surprised and glad we hadn’t started sooner as we had a preferred minimum gap but not a maximum gap.

TheVanguardSix · 08/07/2020 16:22

I had my first at 29 and (sorry to sound boastful) blinked and I was pregnant. My marriage failed and I was a lone parent until I met my now DH. I got pregnant on the day we moved in together! I've had miscarriages in between DCs 2 and 3. The conceiving part was easy. The sticky part was a bit sticky, so sometimes you have to leave a little elbow room for things like miscarriages. But hopefully, this won't be an issue for you.

HarrietM87 · 08/07/2020 16:30

First cycle for DC1 at age 30, 3rd cycle for DC2 at 33. I had a mc in between (unplanned, conceived from a one off occasion) when I was 32 and then waited 6 months to try again.
