morning ladies,
AF arrived today so another month of disappointment. I am really going to try loose some weight with this cycle. I have pcos and on metformin which has not been much help for me. I definitely need to lose minimum one stone but would be happy with two.

Has anyone found that this helped with conceiving. I know it is suggested that even losing 5% of your weight can increase your chances.

Thanks ladies.

Hi, I have PCOS and was always overweight. While I waited for a referral to the fertility clinic I lost two stone (11.5 stone down to 9.5 stone), taking me down to a healthy weight. Unfortunately, it changed nothing for me with ovulation and periods, I still would only get a period once a year if I was lucky. After two years (though it had been much longer realistically) I was then referred to the fertility clinic and prescribed Metformin with a view to taking Clomid thereafter. But I managed to conceive on Metformin so perhaps I have the more extreme end of insulin resistance. Sadly the first time I had an ectopic and lost a tube but I was so so lucky my other tube was ok and with Metformin I managed to have my son.
I'm sure weight loss can help some, but I feel it's putting the blame on the woman and delaying treatment plus ironically with PCOS it can be hard to lose weight. I have a friend who just cannot lose enough weight to qualify for IVF and another who doesn't have PCOS but is morbidly obese and has normal cycles. It's really not fair.
Are you at a fertility clinic, have they mentioned anything like Clomid?

It worked for me - secondary infertility, the clinic sent me away to wait for the results of the tests with the advice to start losing weight. I lost two stone, got a diagnosis of PCOS, and conceived on the first attempt. But I always had regular periods so I don't think my PCOS is very bad.

It definitely helped me! Tried everything for 4 years & also have PCOS & was on metformin. Finally went on a VLCD of 800 cals per day, lost 2 stone & conceived! Doing the strict diet was the only thing that worked to shift weight I think because of PCOS, it was a real struggle to stick to but obviously worth it now I have my DD 🙂 Good Luck!!
