Hello!

I've been reading loads on the importance of pre-conception nutrition and preparing your body. Some say 3 months before and I've seen some that say 6 months before.

I find myself trawling through threads on Mumsnet but wondered if there were any ladies planning to start TTC in the next few months and wanted a forum to chat about ways to prepare / excitement of it all etc.

I often find myself going on to my bf and mum and they're like ok ok! 😂

@butterfly5291 amazing that you've got an appointment so soon! Hopefully it'll be out tomorrow with no issues. @bells3032 have you got an appointment to get yours out too?

Not yet. waiting until the end of august. Want to get my BMI below 35 first (yes i am very overweight lost 30lbs already though :))

butterfly5291 · 03/07/2020 10:37

Thanks! I think it might just be an initial consultation tomorrow...but you never know!

sunflowersaremyfav93 · 03/07/2020 11:00

Doesn't help being indoors a lot does it, I had a doughnut for breakfast this morning 🙈

@Bells3032 what are you doing to lose your weight? I am on the cambridge weight loss plan but struggling this week. I feel like poop!

@butterfly5291I used to work in private medical insurance, the gyn will get you sorted, they are brilliant at these kind of things and very experienced. Hope all goes well tomorrow

butterfly5291 · 03/07/2020 12:16

@JamesZebra oh that's good to know. Really don't want to have an op to get it out. Although if they are putting me under...might as well get rid of any other endo tissue damage 😂

I've been trying slimming world on and off for past year. I only want to lose about another 7lbs but it's a fine balance as I need my boobs for my wedding dress!
If you like fruit and veg then it's great because you can eat as much pasta/rice/ potato as you like. Basically just cut right down on sugar and fat. I've seen some great results on people. Just gets harder the closer you get to target weight. BMI isn't the most accurate if measures...yet all dr's seem to use 🤷

Bells3032 · 03/07/2020 12:22

I am doing WW at the moment. I tried Cambruidge before and lost a quite a bit but I was so miserable and moody my husband has banned me from it again!!

butterfly5291 · 03/07/2020 12:30

I've heard slimming world is easier than WW because of the amount of free foods you can have. Less weighing too, only stuff I weighed was cereal and cheese. I drink black tea so lucky that I can use my dairy on cheese!

Bells3032 · 03/07/2020 12:38

I thjnk for most people sw is easier but I love carbs and hate veg so was just eating lots of fruit and pasta etc so it was stupidly slow. I find the control of ww a lot easier and I can use preprepared stuff a lot easier.

wrensandrobins · 03/07/2020 12:41

I have lost 18lb in 7 weeks calorie counting, cutting out sugar entirely and increasing my dog walks :) I have tried ww and sw previously and the losses have been so slow or gaining and losing the same 3lb, this seems to be working for me :)

butterfly5291 · 03/07/2020 12:43

Wow that's a great loss! Well done.
Lockdown definitely isn't helping... although we're finally allowed out a little at the weekend.
I've actually got a hair appointment tomorrow 🥳🥳🥳 and even got a table booked at local restaurant...proper date night 🥰

OneStepOneStumble · 03/07/2020 13:16

@butterfly5291 aw lovely - a date night sounds great! I'm trying to enjoy this preconception time so hoping to be able to go out a bit too. I've not quite braved booking a hair appt though even though a desperately need it 😂

CookieMonster3001 · 03/07/2020 13:54

Lots of new people today!!

@OneStepOneStumble congrats on the new house! me and hubby just moved into our 'forever home' this Feb.

@Marsupialsss welcome! I think a few of us are trying to shed a few pounds at the moment. Weighed in today and I've lost 10lbs so far in the last 2 months! woo hoo! Nice to hear that you conceived first time with DC1, fingers crossed for this one too!

@butterfly5291 hope the plans for the wedding still go through! I'm going to invest in some cheap internet OPKs a month early just to see how they work so i'm not flustered with my first cycle. It is nice having others to talk to about this, I cant really talk about it to friends and family either. Hope your coil removal goes well!

@sunflowersaremyfav93 I am just about to look into that blog you linked me to as I really don't have a lot to do at work today! Finding myself googling everything under the sun about conceiving these days to occupy myself. Working from home is really not helping with no managers looking over my shoulder to see what I am doing!! haha

@MuddyJenni welcome! as losing some lbs seems to be a common theme for most of us ladies, maybe we can support each other with the weight loss too! I am hoping to lose another 13/14lbs to get me into the healthy BMI zone.

@JamesZebra I have been reading a lot about SMEP and pre-seed too but I am worried I am going to get too obsessed with the whole thing right off the bat! Definitely going to look into them more though if a couple of cycles pass with no luck!

CookieMonster3001 · 03/07/2020 13:56

Anybody else notice everyone one around them is pregnant or just given birth when your desperate to have a child. Its like I notice it so much more and cant help but feel jealous! Ridiculous considering we haven't even started TTC! get a grip woman!

CookieMonster3001 · 03/07/2020 13:58

@wrensandrobins congratulations on the weight loss, that's amazing!

Bells3032 · 03/07/2020 14:08

@OneStepOneStumble we are house hunting too. We are looking at a house this evening. i am very excited as it's on my dream road (although not my dream house it could be extended etc) so excited

Waffle10 · 03/07/2020 14:18

Hi all!
Hope it's still OK to join?

We're planning on starting TTC baby #2 October time, just starting taking folic acid again and trying to lose a few pounds. I've also started using OPKs this month to get an idea.
I really don't remember being this organised the first time round 😂

CookieMonster3001 · 03/07/2020 14:22

@Waffle10 welcome! Nice to see a couple who are looking to start TTC in October!

I've been tempted to order the OPKs now just to occupy myself! But all of my family and friends also use my amazon account and will see once I purchase it.. Not sure if the same ones on ebay are just as trust worthy!

butterfly5291 · 03/07/2020 14:29

@CookieMonster3001the GP couldn't get my coil out today, but managed to get an appointment with gynaecologist through Bupa tomorrow so fingers crossed for that!
We had to pay 30% to hotel this week so theyvare assuming all still going ahead, said they still have some booked for Aug!

@OneStepOneStumble that's what I keep telling myself to focus on the good things about still being ore conception....like the bottle of prosecco I'm going to drink tonight! 😂
Hopefully having the wedding to focus on too will take some of the stress out of TTC well that's what I'm telling myself anyway!

JamesZebra · 03/07/2020 14:32

really interesting to hear other peoples weight losses and plans they are following. I have lost 8lbs so far on Cambridge in 2 weeks. I was fine but now I feel awful on it. I am going to try and do another 2 weeks and if things don't improve then I am going to have to consider other options. I think I might be on the wrong step for me......not sure. Will have to speak to my consultant. Just desperate to lose this weight and have a fighting chance at getting pregnant. I also don't want to get pregnant whilst I am so big as I dread to think how judgey the drs/nurses would be.

CookieMonster3001 · 03/07/2020 14:37

@butterfly5291 that's good that you've got another appointment! fingers crossed they can get it out for you. My manager had a hotel booked down in Cornwall for next week, and today they have just called her to cancel it! Seems to be really hit and miss at the moment with what's going on! Hoping yours goes ahead as planned!

@JamesZebra I lost around 4 stone about 5 years ago and then as soon as I went on the pill my weight creeped up slowly and I ended up putting 2 stone back on. So I have gone back to fasting twice a week which is how I lost all my weight, and I aim to run 3 times a week and do at least 10,000 steps a day! So far so good! After I lost the weight the first time round, I enrolled onto a fitness and nutrition course and realised that weight loss really is just calories in calories out, but finding a plan that works for you! For me, I love eating loads on the weekend, so fasting twice a week helps to balance it out. 8lbs in 2 weeks is absolutely fantastic though, you should be really proud of that loss!

CookieMonster3001 · 03/07/2020 14:38

@sunflowersaremyfav93 just read Luisa's blog you recommended, and defo going to look into those supplements. What were your thoughts on the bit about choosing your gender? I always was under the assumption it was just pot luck?

OneStepOneStumble · 03/07/2020 14:45

@Bells3032 ooo good luck! It's so exciting when you find a house you can really imagine living in and raising a child ☺️

@CookieMonster3001 I get that feeling all the time even with friends who are just talking about starting their TTC journey. I'm jealous even though I'll only be a couple months behind 😂 doesn't help that BIL just announced a surprise pregnancy and I got a bit upset that they didn't even have to 'plan' and felt guilty for being so irrational!

JamesZebra · 03/07/2020 15:02

@Cookiemonster3001 yes I think you are right. The step they have me on at the mo is really low cal and I don't think it is suitable for me so I am speaking to my consultant about eating a bit more. I have about 5/6 stone to lose in total Blush If I can continue to lose each week then I think we will start trying around sept/oct time.

@Bells3032 how exciting about finding your forever home. I am trying to buy a house at the mo. It's way too small for our needs but time isn't on our side so it's just going to have to do until we can afford something bigger Grin

Nate1 · 03/07/2020 15:34

Hi, I'd like to join you if that’s ok.

Me and my husband would like to start ttc in August or September. It depends on when I ovulate, because ovulating too early in August would mean a too early due date for us since my husbands job wouldn‘t allow me to give birth in April next year. Mid-August would be ideal but otherwise September is not too far away.

I‘ve been waiting to ttc since February but still every week counts somehow ... I think I am totally crazy. :D.

I take folic acid, B12 and vitamin D. My husband also takes something for the sperm...I once read that men should also start three months before ttc, but I can't remember why (that's how rumours start :D).

I also try to do as much exercise as possible. I ride a horse and I am very unsure if and how long I should do that. Probably should do more cardio. I hate jogging so that’s not going to happen. :D Can you guys recommend some blogs? I love reading about ttc and pregnancy related stuff. Thanks x
