Hello!

I've been reading loads on the importance of pre-conception nutrition and preparing your body. Some say 3 months before and I've seen some that say 6 months before.

I find myself trawling through threads on Mumsnet but wondered if there were any ladies planning to start TTC in the next few months and wanted a forum to chat about ways to prepare / excitement of it all etc.

I often find myself going on to my bf and mum and they're like ok ok! 😂

My BMI is just over 25 having lost 3st with slimming world since my last preganacy. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with DD so I'm desperate to not repeat that. Daily insulin, diet, blood tests and being induced was not my idea of a good time.

I'm technically at my target weight with slimming world now and clothes wise I'm happy but thi k ill try and lose another half a stone before TTC just to put my BMI right and give me the best chance of not putting on too much and developing gestational diabetes again.

Not read the 'bible' but the approach to actually trying seems similar to what we did with DD and I got pregnant within the first month. I've never actually checked when I ovulate. I need to wait for my first period after my coil out to even begin to work that out.

Has anyone had a mirena coil out before and know how long it's taken for periods to come back?

CharWils · 16/07/2020 20:15

Hi all,
Do you mind if I join? Have been reading through and looks like a great thread to be on whilst TTC for the first time!
I am 33 and have just come off the cerelle pill Tuesday this week after being on either that or the Implant since I was 18 so I can't even remember a normal cycle!
I am taking well woman gummies which have the folic acid and vitamin D in them, only started yesterday. I had a chat with my doctor today who said they were fine and to avoid vitamin E but from reading I am sure they meant vitamin A?
I have been looking at the good impatient woman guide to getting pregnant which from looking at all your posts seems like it comes highly recommended?

mackjm20 · 16/07/2020 20:22

@Pebbleinthesand well done you on the weight loss. I had my mirena coil out in Jan and periods returned in feb - my cycle still varies slightly but getting there :)

@CharWils the impatient woman’s guide is fab I downloaded it after the recommendations on here and have been reading a little bit everyday :)

Pebbleinthesand · 16/07/2020 20:30

Thanks @mackjm20. Hopefully it won't be too long before my cycle starts up again then.

It's so weird how we can be waiting for a specific date/event/time to TTC and yet still be impatient to get going 😂

Half the time I feel like yelling 'impregnate me now!' to DH and the other half of the time I'm discussing the pros of waiting a few months 😜

mackjm20 · 16/07/2020 20:34

@Pebbleinthesand Omgosh I’m exactly the same! Like I know the sensible thing to do is wait until September but at the same time I have moments when I’m SO IMPATIENT! Haha so nice to be speaking to others who feel the same :)

olderthanyouthink · 16/07/2020 21:32

@sunflowersaremyfav93 yeah, small bump (I measured a bit small toward the end but not worryingly so) and small 6lb baby. I'm no where near getting pregnant I think but I'm still like how do I tell them, when do I tell them, will they be annoyed, what will the others think (huge staff turn over, I barely know anyone)????

"The chapter about ovulation and timing sex blew my mind! I never realised how short a window there actually is for the egg to get fertilised!"

... DD was an accident, 2 condom slips and 2 morning after pills (taken very soon after) within a few days of each other Blush #2 is already more of a challenge

My low BMI (16/17) almost cost me more while sorting out life insurance the other day Confused you lot just reminded me to take my vitamins though!

Lollipop87 · 16/07/2020 21:55

@CharWils hi! Yes we love that book on here, we now call it the bible 😂 I still haven’t read more as I’m almost scared to read the next chapter which is about miscarriage.

@Pebbleinthesand my sister had her Mirena coil taken out straight after her wedding and got pregnant on her first cycle the following month. She said she had one monster period a couple of weeks after and that was luckily her only one 😂 I totally know what you mean, I’m just so excited!

I was telling my mum about this thread and she was like “oh we never had that in my day, you had to wait until you were actually pregnant and could go to nct classes to finally talk to other women about it”, so I do think we’re lucky to have more technology these days!

queenatom · 16/07/2020 22:20

@mackjm20 @Pebbleinthesand I’m definitely in a similar place. To be honest, I’d be happy to crack on now but my husband wants to wait a little longer, and objectively it makes sense to let my cycle stabilise etc. Occasionally I just want to tell him to get straight to it and get the party started! Trying to resist the urge as I don’t want to push too hard and ultimately it’s only a few months longer - it’s hard sometimes though!

JamesZebra · 16/07/2020 22:22

@Lollipop87 the hot tub sounds like bliss!!!

I am certainly glad we have one another to talk to. I thought I was going a bit nuts before finding this thread Grin

Pebbleinthesand · 16/07/2020 22:33

@queenatom it's so hard waiting. One of the main reasons we're waiting a few months is because I'm on a hen party with work friends in September and the moment I say I'm not drinking they'll all guess. My poker face is terrible so I might as well just declare it there and then. If we start trying straight away and get pregnant straight off then I might have only just found out myself so don't feel like having to explain myself to them all. Besides being sober on am overnight hen party is not much fun. Sometimes it does seem a silly reason to wait but I'm sure I'll survive. Having this group with lots of others to chat to who are waiting until Sept/Oct to TTC should help 🤞

@lollipop87 I definitely agree that we're so lucky to have groups like this to be able to chat to others in the same situation about it. Other than my best friend no one else knows that we're potentially TTC again soon and I don't want to bore her to tears with always going on about it.

Lollipop87 · 16/07/2020 22:36

@queenatom I’m the same, I’ve been ready to go since January!! In a way I’m kind of glad we didn’t start back then as it would have been sad not to be able to both be at the scans, but I am soooo ready to have a baby! I don’t think the same biological need is there for men, or at least it doesn’t shout and scream at them so loudly! My mum doesn’t understand why we don’t just start now, she’s like “but you know you both want children so why wait”, but then she’s from the era when you would just stop using contraception as soon as you got married. The only reason I’m quite happy to wait now is I feel like I understand my DH’s thoughts about it a lot more since chatting last night, and I also read that it’s best to take folic acid for 2-3 months before TTC if you can and I only started taking it on 1st July.

wrensandrobins · 16/07/2020 23:00

We are waiting till December and it feels like so far away! I only started my job in January though and they are amazing so it doesn't seem fair to immediately get pregnant, I'm glad to have found this because i also had nobody but my mum/ partner to talk to and I swear I'm boring them to death 🤣 the chatter and getting healthy is giving a focus for the excited energy I have right now

wrensandrobins · 16/07/2020 23:02

Anyone else getting loads of dreams about pregnancy and babies.. I even dream about breast feeding and child birth- I have no children so nothing to really base it all on, it's so odd!

I had a dream the other night about breast feeding puppies 🤣 I kept losing them in b&q

Lollipop87 · 16/07/2020 23:07

@wrensandrobins that dream sounds hilarious! I’m having weird dreams but not about pregnancy or breastfeeding, usually about weird things like getting stuck in a creepy house and not being able to get out! Although last night I had a nice dream about weddings. I definitely know what you mean about having a focus for the excited energy, that’s exactly how I feel!

mackjm20 · 17/07/2020 07:20

@queenatom @Pebbleinthesand it’s so hard isn’t it! Especially if you have events etc to avoid. So with you about the mind changes though!

@Lollipop87 I am the same timescale with the folic acid so that’s keeping me sensible too :)

@wrensandrobins I am so glad you said this! I literally am having baby dreams constantly! Yours however sound way funnier than mine hahaha xx

queenatom · 17/07/2020 07:37

@mackjm20 It is, isn't it? The only good thing is that, with lockdown restrictions starting to lift, there are lots of things that I'm now glad I'll be able to do again before I've started trying (visiting favourite bars, eating a big rare steak at my favourite restaurant, soaking in the hot tub at the spa). Last night my husband had a cheese and wine event with work (done remotely) - eight raw milk cheeses and three delicious bottles of wine to work through, and I wouldn't have been able to touch any of it if I were pregnant. Gotta try and find the silver linings!

mackjm20 · 17/07/2020 08:38

@queenatom oh yes so with you on all of those things! In particular the virtual cheese and wine night! That sounds amazing!!!

MsQueenInTheNorth · 17/07/2020 11:45

@mackjm20 Oh I know, I’m the same. I’m saying “Ohhh, I just want to try and keep it low key” now, but I know that 2 or 3 months in I’ll be the person saying to my boyfriend “Is that your THIRD cup of coffee of the day?!?!” Blush

I’m glad other people are having the pregnancy dreams too, I’ve been having them at least twice a week. I had one the other day that I was pregnant (confirmed by a blood test at the doctors, which was how dream me found out!) and my boyfriend didn’t believe me. Hopefully that’s not a prophecy Hmm

queenatom · 17/07/2020 16:15

@mackjm20 The only problem is that the fridge is full of leftover cheese, too much temptation!

Nate1 · 17/07/2020 19:36

@Pebbleinthesand Mirena out exactly 3 weeks ago and first period today (hate it!!! But grateful to have one at the same time :D) Oh dear..actually ttc will be an emotional rollercoaster if I‘m this easily bothered :D Cycle length was a bit short (25 days) but fine I guess :)

Lollipop87 · 17/07/2020 22:09

@Nate1 I’m not sure if it’s the same pill vs coil but my first cycle was quite short too (also 25 days) but not sure if the length of time “counts” as your body is still getting the hormones out of your system 🤷🏼‍♀️ My subsequent cupcake was 27 days and now on my 3rd so I’m hoping it’s starting to normalise. Good that you got one though, and the next one will likely be more than 25 days I reckon.

Went out for dinner tonight and had pate and cheeseboard, all the talk of what food you can’t have in pregnancy made me think right I’m making the most of this 😂

Lollipop87 · 17/07/2020 22:10

Don’t know where the word cupcake came from, was supposed to say cycle 🤣 Maybe I’m craving cake too!

Nate1 · 18/07/2020 08:59

Good Morning :)

@CharWils Hi :)
@Lollipop87 Thanks for the reassurance:) you‘re probably right and it‘s the hormones leaving the system/balancing/making way for a natural cycle. :)
My sister in law made a comment about me being pregnant because I forgot a name of a family member for a second there yesterday which led me to „protest drink“ to clear things up for her .. haha :D I think it’s great to enjoy all the things we can‘t have soon (hopefully) and a nice cheesboard sounds awesome.

CookieMonster3001 · 18/07/2020 09:19

Good Morning everyone!!! So much to catch up on! Me and hubby had a week off work to celebrate his birthday (hopefully last time just us 2!!) And have tried to stay away from social media for a while! I recieved the OPKs in post but gonna hang onto them until Aug/Sept to start testing!

So turns out the famalam want to plan a holiday and DH convinced them to go in October before we TTC which will be nice so thinking of where to go... considering Greece!

It also turns out me and DH are hosting christmas party this year (if things go bk to normal that is) which originally scared me incase I am pregs but thinking now is prob a good thing as itll be easier to hide not drinking!!

Also the next thing we found out is my older sister is planning to TTC the EXACT date as me. And now I cant help but think if she catches before me and getting pangs of jealousy which is soooo ridiculous but I cant help it. Even to the point where Ive thought well if we get pregs at same time do we do a joint baby shower but I dont want to as itll be my 1st and her 2nd. Someone needs to slap me!

Finally we also found out DH will have to take a pay cut as his company has been hit hard by CV19 which is a bit of a bummer but hoping it will be OK.

On a brighter note, I have ate all the food this week and done zero exercise which has been great but cant wait to get back to healthy eating next week!
