Anyone else thinking of starting TTC after Christmas?

It might be a bit early to start thinking about it, but I just thought I’d post and see! It will be interesting to hear if anyone else is thinking that far ahead and to hear what they’re doing. I’m trying to lose weight (I have a BMI of 29 at the moment), ideally 1.5 stone but if I can do a bit more then even better! I’m making a conscious effort to drink less too, although I’m not giving up completely for now. I’ve also started tracking my ovulation again (which I did before when I used Natural Cycles) so I have some more accurate data in my apps. I’m not expecting this thread to carry on until January (although who knows!) but I thought it would be good to check in and see if anyone else is as enthusiastic crazy as I am Blush

hey girls,

I might be joining you. So was meant to be getting married last month, had a big race in Sept then plan was to come off pill in October...until Corona. After postponing our wedding to June 2021 I came off the pill in April and have been TCC since, this is my last month of trying before we take a big brake till March 2021.
For those on the pill, I've had 29/30 days cycles straight away but my periods are not normal, they are very light. If I knew this I would have come off the pill 6 month pre TTC.
Vitamin and mineral wise, your egg is acctually finishing getting developed 3 months pre Ovulation so definitely a good idea to start with them now. 😊

MsQueenInTheNorth · 13/07/2020 14:57

Afternoon @wrensandrobins! I have almost certainly put on weight this week too as we had a takeaway and a meal out at the weekend... not ideal! My BMI is currently 28, I’d ideally like to get it to the 23/24 before we start trying, but the 25/26 mark would be OK too!

I don’t think there’s any harm in starting to take the supplements now, it’s a good way to start getting your body ready Smile
I had a look at the Boots pregnancy vitamins online, which are fine to take pre conception and then all the way through pregnancy. I think I might just order some of those and start taking them now as they’re cheaper than my normal multivitamin and I know they’re definitely safe to take during pregnancy! I’m a vegetarian so I won’t be joining you in the fish oil even though I’ve heard good things about it!

Hi @Morningdaffodils! I’m the same as wrensandrobins I’m afraid, I’m obsessing quite a lot and no useful tips to try and avoid it! I’m also dreaming about being pregnant 2 or 3 times a week Confused
I haven’t told anyone we’re thinking of trying after Christmas yet, mainly because I don’t want to then have to tell them that the plan has changed if it does change! I’d quite like to have one ‘big’ holiday before we start (we’ve not had a proper holiday as a couple), but that would be a chunk of money that could be spent on other things!

Hi @blodyn91! Fingers crossed that this is a lucky month for you! Yes, I think it’s quite common for periods to take a while to go back to normal after the pill. At least I think that’s what I read when I came off it, that was about 4 or 5 years ago though!

@MsQueenInTheNorth we are going to go to Iceland for 10 days over Christmas as a last big adventure. It will also end up being our pre wedding honey moon, because nothing is normal anymore 😂 means we can start TTC pre wedding, and not have to hold off any longer.

ErrolFinn · 13/07/2020 15:54

Hello,
I hope you don't mind me joining you all. It's great to see others being super organised as well!
We are hoping to start TTC after Christmas. We had initially planned to start this year but ended up delaying it. We are currently mid renovation and would like to have the house all sorted before starting.

MsQueenInTheNorth · 14/07/2020 09:48

Hi @ErrolFinn, welcome! Having the house sorted sounds like a good plan. Will this be your first baby?

MsQueenInTheNorth · 14/07/2020 09:50

@blodyn91 Oh wow, that sounds amazing! Are you staying in one place, or travelling around Iceland?

OP posts:
ErrolFinn · 14/07/2020 19:52

@MsQueenInTheNorth
Yes it will be our first baby. I am 27 and my DH is 29. We are the first of our friends to consider starting a family so it's good to have people on here to chat to that understand!
Do you have many friends with children that you can practice with? We have no young children in the family so I have little experience around babies so I am a bit nervous about that.

MsQueenInTheNorth · 15/07/2020 09:25

@ErrolFinn I’m 27 too, my boyfriend is in his late 30s though which is one of the reasons I don’t want to wait for too long before starting trying!

I have a lot of experience with children (and my partner has 2 children too) but not much experience with babies Confused My best friend and her partner are TTC at the moment and hopefully they will get their positive soon. They are the first of my close friends to try though, so we’re in a similar position!

Hi. Hope you don’t mind me joining in. I’m not planning on starting after straight Christmas but we get married April 21 so planning to then. I’m thinking of finishing this months pill packet then coming off and using condoms until after the wedding. Wishing you all luck on your journeys and hope it’s one we can go through together Smile xx

MsQueenInTheNorth · 17/07/2020 11:51

Hi @Purpleflowers21, congratulations on your wedding! I might end up being a bit later than January too, I guess you don’t know for certain until you start! Will this be your first baby?

IAmFourEels · 17/07/2020 12:03

Hi everyone, my DH and I are also going to start TTC in December - but I'm terrified he's going to change his mind if the pandemic stuff doesn't settle down! We have had one friend really struggle with her post-labour hospital stay, as her husband was only allowed to visit for one hour a day and she had to stay in for 5 days with her baby - practically all alone.
And another friend had to miscarry alone in hospital because they wouldn't let her husband in to the ward. So he has good reason not to want to TTC if restrictions are still in place, but I am already obsessing about babies and tracking my ovulation and not doing a very good job of being patient and calm. All my best friends have babies or are pregnant, and I've wanted to be a mum for so long. The wait is really hard. I'm 32 and ideally would like 3 children so it feels like the window is narrowing every day, baaaahh!

Purpleflowers21 · 18/07/2020 10:14

Thank you! Just hoping everything returns to normal so the wedding won’t be affected, but I am keeping positive about it all! Yeah will be both our firsts. Did I read this will be your first too?

Purpleflowers21 · 18/07/2020 10:17

@IAmFourEels ahh I see where your coming from! I’ll be 31 when we start trying (after getting married in April 21) so do worry if we need to delay for any reason. Hopefully things are starting to get back to a more normal now and fingers crossed we avoid this second wave they are all talking about x

MsQueenInTheNorth · 18/07/2020 13:33

Hi @IAmFourEels! It’s so hard at the moment isn’t it, I know where your husband is coming from but it must be really frustrating for you! I’m sorry to hear about what your friends went through, that must have been awful.
I am getting a bit obsessed too, I know what you mean! I absolutely m love planning stuff, so I am really enjoying tracking my cycles, looking at vitamins etc. Maybe I need to get out more Blush
32 gives you lots of time still! You might end up having twins too Wink

@Purpleflowers21 Yes first for me, third for my partner Smile Have you managed to keep the same venue for next April?

OP posts:
Purpleflowers21 · 18/07/2020 13:59

@MsQueenInTheNorth we were originally booked for next April thankfully so nothings had to be rearranged. Ah how old are your partners kids? Neither of us have much experience with kids so we’ll both be complete newbies haha

wrensandrobins · 22/07/2020 08:55

I'm so close to the target I originally set myself! I wanted to not be obese by Christmas and I have about 3lb to go! I have lost 27lb in 11 weeks! I want to get as close to the weight was I was when I met my partner and a nearly a healthy weight now which is around another 17lb! I think that's doable if I can continue with the current losses!

The plan is still to try and conceive in December, and I'm coming off the pill next week which I'm really looking forward to! I have never really not been on contraception because when I was 16 I was put on the pill for heavy periods, so I'm really curious about what natural me is like!

ErrolFinn · 08/08/2020 11:24

How is everyone doing? I don't know if it's just me but when people tell me they are pregnant I am getting irrationally jealous, especially since we aren't even TTC! I am planning things for early next year and wondering if I will be pregnant haha! Grin

wrensandrobins · 09/08/2020 08:53

Off the pill! But hormones are going crazy all over the place so not much dieting going on!

Yeah I got anxious the other day completely irrationally that my SIL was going to announce she was pregnant!

I really want to start trying now but I am trying to be sensible and stick to the plan!

Morningdaffodils · 09/08/2020 09:29

@wrensandrobins congratulations about the weight loss!

@ErrolFinn completely get that!

It is such a frustrating wait! I have one more strip of pills before coming off for good, hopefully will give me a few cycles before Christmas to get back to normal. I know that it makes sense with my job to wait but it’s hard - especially as logically it makes sense to wait even longer than that to do up more of the house!! I guess there will always be a reason to put it off.

Anyone else nervous about coming off the pill? I’ve been on it for years and worried I have no idea what my cycle is like...

wrensandrobins · 09/08/2020 14:18

@Morningdaffodils I came off it last week and thought I would be fine but I'm analysing everything desperate for a 'normal' cycle even though I know that it can take months! We aren't trying to get pregnant till jan so it really doesn't matter if my body wants to take a few months to settle down!

bigglewiggle · 09/08/2020 14:25

Ah this is a nice thread to find! We have decided the same and I'm in the same boat with trying to lose weight first. I am going to get my coil out soon (found somewhere that will do it locally) in preparation.

bigglewiggle · 09/08/2020 14:28

Also to add I used Natural Cycles when TTC my first and it worked really well.

My plan this time is to just take the coil out and stop preventing it. 6 months down the line I would try more actively, but I want to try a more laidback approach at first.

wrensandrobins · 09/08/2020 15:05

@bigglewiggle hi! It is a lovely thread! Exciting for us all! I'm using natural cycles, starting to settle into taking my temperature although I seem to wake at 5am every day!
