Symptoms coming off desogestral (mini pill)

Hi all, I'm looking for some experiences coming off the mini pill as my body seems all over the place and I'm feeling confused!

I came off the pill on 8 June. Felt fine, then five days later on 13 June had what felt like period pains. No withdrawal bleed and all fine until a few days ago when my breasts began to feel really tender with very sensitive nipples. They're still sore on and off, I've got occasional mild cramps and I've been feeling nauseated –this morning I vomited.

I thought these were possibly pregnancy symptoms but I've just been reading about the side effects when you stop taking the pill (although I came off the combined pill a few years ago with no side effects). Has anyone had similar symptoms? Trying to work out whether my period is coming or I should POAS, although I think it would be too early for that?

The info online is so patchy regarding specific pills. Any experiences would be gratefully received!

I came of Cerelle which is also a mini pill a few weeks ago - I really should have noted the date! I got a light withdrawal type bleed after about 5 days too but nothing since. I’ve had occasional cramps but no more bleeding. I did get an absolute bugger of a headache for about 3 days though.

Hi! I came off Cerazette on the 19th, had bleeding for 4 days. Since then I have had sore boobs, occasional headaches, backache, bloating and stomach aches. I did a test but it came up negative. Apparently the symptoms coming off are fairly similar to pregnancy.

I think I stopped taking it around the 4th of June? Just looking back at my calendar.

Oh I’ve had terrible bloating! I put it down to taking up running as apparently that can make you bloated too.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 01/07/2020 16:13

It feels a bit cruel that the side effects can mimic pregnancy symptoms! I've actually ordered a couple of tests but I suspect it would be too early for a positive result anyway, even if I am pregnant, so I'm a bit reluctant to try. I thought it was all pill-related until I was actually sick this morning. Has anyone else experienced vomiting three weeks after stopping the pill?

Thanks so much for responding, it's really helpful reading what other people have experienced.

No actual vomiting here.

Hi OP @AtLeastThreeDrinks

I came off of the same mini pill as you in Feb, as my body was trying to ovulate but the mini pill was stopping this so was advised by the doctor (also stopped due to Mental Health).

The beginning of March I had my first period and then regular since then (except last month as I had an EMC).

From what I remember, I had all pregnancy and PMS type symptoms on the pill as the doctor told me the type of mini pill it was puts your body in a constant pregnancy state...

My body actually felt better coming off of it for sure. I bloat as HELL of a lot now I’m not taking it though which is awful but I get all the sore nipples and breasts etc leading up to AF x

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 01/07/2020 17:03

Ah thanks @Chicken123. I guess I'll just wait and see whether my period arrives. Pre-pill I could pinpoint the date and time of AF based on my symptoms, but I've never had them like this before, which is what made me wonder whether we'd conceived astonishingly quickly! I've never been so aware of my boobs Grin

I'll report back either way for anyone else with the same question.

@AtLeastThreeDrinks Curious as to whether you were pregnant or it was just the side effect of coming off the pill?

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 22/02/2024 10:40

Hey @MyPeachCat, my period did come (eventually, took about six weeks), but I was pregnant the month after!

@AtLeastThreeDrinks Thanks for the reply. I am going through the same, I came off the pill about 3 weeks ago, and I was sick yesterday and today. Hoping I'm not pregnant, and it is just a reaction to coming off it. I was on it for 15 years, so I presume it will change my body quite a lot. Thanks again for relieving my anxiety over it all.
