Period or Something Else after MMC?

I’m 2 weeks post ERPC for MMC and today have started bleeding watery old blood.

I had cramps like period was coming yesterday and spots on chin over the last few days. It’s also period amount iyswim.

But I’m still having positive tests, not massively strong but visible still. I do have 2 4/5cm cysts which could’ve ruptured.

Should I take this as my period or not? Confused as still have the positive tests and it’s only been 2 weeks since the op.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I had a missed miscarriage in January and it was awful. I had the elective surgery for personal reasons but I was told after 2 weeks i should take a pregnancy test, if it was positive i was to phone the hospital as soon as possible as sometimes part of the pregnancy is still there. Causing a positive test. They also said if I bled for any longer than a normal period to get in touch. I wonder if it would be beneficial for you to get in touch with your local hospital or the clinic that confirmed your miscarriage? Just to make sure everything is ok. The worry it awful but I think if you have answers from a professional then I think you will feel better. Best of luck and sending you lots of virtual hugs xxx

Thank you for messaging.

I have called EPU, they said it’s not unusual to have a period or bleed and still have a positive test for up to a month after ERPC.

I have to test in a week and if still positive or if bleeding is very heavy to call them again and can have bloods/scan done.

She said it might be cysts, period or just my body getting rid of any remnants. Xx

I'm so glad you phoned, they see it all the time and as good as mumsnet is we need professionals to tell us that it's normal. Hoping you can relax now and get back to trying as soon as possible. Take care x

Hi, I stopped bleeding after about 2-3 days after my surgical management; then about a week later I had brown discharge for about 2-3 weeks, not a period amount but not normal discharge either. It did eventually stop about 3-4 weeks after the surgical management. I still haven’t had a period at this point. I only got a negative pregnancy test at 3 weeks after and that to be honest wasn’t 100% negative, but I was sure that my HCG was dropping rapidly so was happy not to go back in for checks. Basically, my point is I think almost anything is normal as long as it isn’t very heavy, very painful, smelly or you have a fever, but good that you checked in with EPU. Hope it settles down soon.

Thanks @Sash887 Yes just someone saying it’s normal is a relief.

@notalwaysalondoner you situation sounds much like mine. It’s been a 7 week miscarriage journey of hell. 17 weeks since I found out I was pregnant. All I want is a negative test so I can start trying again.

Hopefully whatever it is, it flushes out any remnants and can get back to some normality! Xx
