Cycle day 100+...

Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice (or maybe reassurance). Came off the combined pill late last year after approx 10 years on it to TTC. Had two cycles around 40 days. This current cycle is now more than 100 days... in this time I have had two occasions quite far apart of feeling like AF was coming on, with bright blood when I wiped on one occasion and a very small amount of bloody discharge on another. Sorry if TMI! I have done regular pregnancy tests which have all been negative. I know it can take a while to settle after stopping the pill, but I just feel clueless as to what my body is doing.

Should I get in touch with my GP? Will they just tell me that it can take a while to settle? Or should I be proactive incase there is any underlying health issue I'm unaware of. I never did have regular periods before the pill so I have no idea what to expect now.

Thanks in advance xx

A visit to the GP would be no harm. You could ask for provera to induce a bleed. You could also ask to have bloods taken at various points in your cycle. It may well be you have PCOS but you'll need blood work and a scan to confirm it.

Thank you for your reply and suggestions 😊

I think I've put it off with coronavirus and also a bit of denial that there might be any PCOS or anything too. But I'm not going to get anywhere by burying my head in the sand!

If it is PCOS there is plenty that can be done. It's necessarily an infertile sentence. Once you know what might be causing issues, you can then make plan. Plans are much less stressful. Good luck 🤞🏻

YouBoggleMyMind · 27/06/2020 22:59

It ISN'T necessarily! What a time for a typo!! Sorry!!

Lauren1288 · 28/06/2020 10:20

The exact same is happening me me right now! Cam off the implant, had 2 normal cycles and now day 96 of this cycle and loosing the will to live! I rang the doctors and spoke to the nurse 4 weeks ago and she said if I miss another cycle to call back in 4 weeks and they will do bloods and ultrasound. I think I am going to ask for a tablet to induce bleeding cos I am going to try soy isoflavones to shorten my cycle length down from about 40 days

Hope you're AF arrives for you soon 🤞🏼

Thank you! So true that plans are less stressful, I just like to know what is going on.

Thank you for replying and for letting me know it's not just me lol.... How do you know if you've missed another cycle though? Just in "x" amount of days? I feel like I have no cycle at all at the minute 😟

@Ariel12345 so was averaging 40 days per cycle like you and because it's now been 80 days plus I've technically missed 2 periods

The nurse did say to be it could be that my body is still getting back to normal after the implant but it's strange that I've had 2 normal cycles now nothing for 2 cycles. I just hope they can give me something to kick start everything again.

Ah I see, thank you. I feel exactly the same... I thought my 40 day cycles were long but at least there seemed to be a pattern when I had two the same length... I even used OPK in the second cycle and saw a peak. And then it's all seemingly went wrong. I didn't use the OPK for this cycle because we decided not to try with coronavirus happening.

Think I will phone the GP this week. @Lauren1288 please do keep me updated on how you get on 😊

My cycles were really long after coming off the pill. I got to day 70 something and started taking Agnus Castus also called chaste berry from Holland and Barrett and my period started a couple of days late. I carried on taking it and my next cycle was about 40 days and the next 30 something, then I got pregnant.

Lauren1288 · 04/07/2020 18:16

@Ariel12345 any sign of AF for you yet? Still nothing for me, although been taking Agnus castus for the past week and I've had a lot of cramps. I've had bloods taken and awaiting a date for my ultrasound

Ariel12345 · 04/07/2020 20:19

@Lauren1288 nice to hear from you. How are you feeling taking the agnus castus, other than cramps? How did you come to decide on taking it? I've read a little about it since another poster mentioned it. There seem to be mixed views on it! Did they say how long they think the wait for the ultrasound appointment would be for you?

Strangely, I had maybe two days this week where I had something, not what i would call spotting but the smallest bits of dark blood clot type bits... expected AF to appear properly but didn't. So not sure if that was my period or not?! I phoned the GP this week but couldn't get in, so going to try again this coming week.

@Lauren1288 any updates?
I spoke to a GP who said to wait till it's been 6 months since my last period which will be September, then they will do bloods and look into PCOS. I'm going to really focus on losing weight to try and help things along in the meantime.

@Ariel12345 nope no updates, still no sign of AF but got my ultrasound tomorrow afternoon so hoping that will show some answers and I've got a call with the GP booked for Friday to get the results from both the scan and bloods.

Wow I'm shocked your GP had said to wait that long! Would have thought they might have at least sent you for bloods to check hormone levels. Well I hope AF arrives for you soon and good luck with the weight loss

Ariel12345 · 26/07/2020 11:09

@Lauren1288 thanks for the well wishes!

How was the ultrasound? And did you get your results ok?

Yeah I kind of expected to be having bloods done. GP said it's unusual for periods to take this long to settle, but not unheard of..... so wait and see what happens for another couple of months. I just find it strange that, like you, I had those relatively normal cycles to start with!

OP posts:
Lauren1288 · 26/07/2020 11:46

@Ariel12345 scan was ok thank you, the lady who done the scan said that my ovaries looked Polycystic which I wasn't shocked at really as I have lots of symptoms of it reading up on it. Had the results of the bloods and scan on Friday which did indeed confirm PCOS so I've been referred to a gynaecologist to help with treatment to kick start my cycles again.

I would definitely go back to your GP if AF doesn't turn up in a few months or even sooner if possible and request bloods and a scan so you can find out what's going on. How have you been getting on with the weight loss?

Ariel12345 · 26/07/2020 13:54

@Lauren1288 glad the scan was ok. What sort of symptoms of PCOS had you identified? It must feel strange having it confirmed but it being a positive step towards getting help to regulate cycles!

I think I will give it maybe till the end of August, then get back on to the GP. I've been trying to eat more veg and less sugar this week, but not sure I've had any weight loss yet. I've done a little bit of reading online about diets for PCOS... the idea seems good but the reality of no dairy and no gluten will be difficult lol 😦
