Hello!

I recently did a treatment and got to egg retrieval but only 3 eggs got retrieved and was told they were so immature that the treatment had to stop. It was that quick that they called us as we arrived home. Devastated! The Dr said it could be my age (41) I have no previous fertility issues just had to do IVF due to my tube issues and AMH was 10 (not high but okay for my age group). Also at the time I was only on prenatal vitamin (pregnacare) and Impryl (which by the way not good to mix but wasn't told this beforehand). My Dr recommended Impryl and I asked him if it was okay to take with pregnacare and he said yes however I later found out from the pharmacist at Impryl that it was not recommended to be taken together!

Now I am preparing my body fully for the next time and recently came across the book 'it starts with the egg' I have bought all the supplements from the 'advance' list (being over 40) and have started taking them but I am worried I am taking too much supplements.

Has anyone done this or have been doing this? Just seems like a lot of supplements (pills) to take daily. But want the best possible chance. The advance list if anyone wants to know it is:

  1. Prenatal
  2. Ubiquinol CoQ10 400mg (daily- I split it between breakfast and dinner).
  3. R alpha lipoic acid 250 (recommended 200-300)
  4. Vitamin E 200 IU
  5. Vitamin C 500mg
  6. N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine 600mg
  7. Melantonin (3mg) (I won’t start these till nearer the time as book recommend 2weeks to 1 month before egg retrieval)
  8. DHEA supplement
  9. Vitamin D3 4000IU

Thanks in advance for your responses.

I don’t have any answers but am watching with interest as I’m 40 and TTC (have been for the last 18 months with no joy - secondary infertility). I am only taking folic acid and coq10!

Hi there, just following along with interest as I just had a TFMR after finding out baby had rare chromosomal disorder, so want to give myself the best chance for next time.

Also to ask... are you in the UK and did you need a prescription for DHEA?

Am thinking of going to see some sort of private practitioner because I'm also nervous about taking a whole load of things without a tailored approach

Hi Amymone, So very sorry to hear about your baby :(

Yes I am in the UK. No I didn’t get a prescription I just ordered it off Biovea.

Having read my prenatal (pregnacare) I may drop the vitamin C, D and E because they already have some just not to the extent the book is recommending!
