Hey!!

Total newbie here so Hello :)
I am 27 years old and my partner and I have decided that to try for a baby so Im just finishing my last strip of Microgynon 30 and then plan to let my cycle return and give it a go.

Ive read that i can start taking Folic Acid now to prepare but Im confused around the Vitamin D, some tablets have it included and some don't. The ones Ive been looking have the 400 of Folic Acid and then 10 of Vitamin D.
My question is do i need to have both? I don't think I have a deficiency and I do go out in the sun but worried if I take it ill take too much but worried if i don't take it I won't have enough.

Any advice would be amazing :)

Thanks

Hi, welcome!

I won’t be much help as I had a huge deficiency the beginning of the year, but it did cause me to do some research and they suggest that most people have a deficiency in vitamin d, but are unaware of it.

Too much can give you calcium issues, but I think that has to be a lot. I was on 20,000 units for three months to boost it, and now I’m on 400 (? I think: I don’t have the energy to go and look)

If you are worried, you could speak to a pharmacy? I was on folic acid, vitamins d & b6, & iron.

Good luck!

Vitamin D plays a role in fertility and maintaining a healthy pregnancy, and most people in the Uk are deficient, so I would definitely start taking it. As PP said, it’s hard to overdose unless you take many times over the recommended level for supplementation.

Maximum Vitamin D recommended is 100ug per day. Recommended intake is 10ug. I'd take both folic acid and vitamin D

and vitamun D can also be expressed in IU which is what a PP is talking about - 400IU = 10ug
I take 25ug which is 1000IU
