Hello all.
I'm on my first cycle to concieve baby #3. My last two pregnacies I wasn't on any meds but this time I am. Can anyone share their experiences of being on sertraline (in particular) and is it safe? I'm on 50mg.

Many thanks.

I think you need to discuss this with your gp they will be able to give you all the facts.

@Vickie89, im also TTC #1 and I take sertraline. I spoke to my doctor and she advised to continue on the meds as they would rather have a happy mum, my anxiety would be worse for the baby. But I agree with @Mo81 you need to speak up your healthcare professional. They'll probably do it over the phone and as no one here knows your medical history it wouldnt be right if someone who is not your doctor to tell you what you should do. Good luck on your TTC journey xxx

Yes i am but i have no idea about meds in pregnancy not my field so i have adviced her to go to her gp who can best advice her i really dont see what i need to speak up about my jobs irrelevent if i have no knowledge of this particular issue.

@sqinky Thank you. How much of sertraline are you on? I will speak to my doc when I actually get pregnant but I know she has said in the past, she wants me off of them before I TTC. I have tried lower my dose to 25mg recently but my mood dropped. I had PND after my first baby, got pregnant straight after her but suffered a mentally. Went on Anti Ds after second one. I think I have a chemical imbalance. I was fine until I had children as had no history of depression before them but I absolutely love being a mum so it overrides every thing ❤

@Mo81 sorry mo! I meant speak 'to' not speak up. Read it again and I sound much better 🙂

Vickie89 · 22/06/2020 20:21

@mo81... @sqinky was just suggesting the same thing as you. Saying I should go & speak to my doc. Which I will do. 😊

@Vickie89 Its definitely worth you speaking to your GP as soon as poss and then you have time to get your ducks in a row 🙂 aww bless you darling, I'm sorry to learn you've suffered with PND, I can only imagine how you must have felt. Have a word with your doc. Theyll give you the support and guidance you need and support you in whatever they decide to do with your meds! Xxx

@Vickie89 i was told i should come off them if i wanted to get pregnant, so i spent the year before weaning myself off very gradually and getting myself sorted. It was fine, i haven't needed to go back on them and DD is now 8m.

what i was told is that there are some ADs that are safe for pregnancy, but sertraline isn't one of them.

Mo81 · 22/06/2020 20:25

@SqinkyNo problem i was confused. Thank u
@Vickie89 i know and good luck with it all

Sqinky · 22/06/2020 20:28

@SomeoneElseEntirelyNow thanks for your comment. I'll double check with my GP in the coming days for clarification! Xxx

Thank you lovely. I called them recently and we talked about going down to 25 mg. I tried & within a week, I started to notice my mood dropping. I feel like I'll never be able to come off of them. Xx

Thank you. What are AD? I didn't realise sertraline wasn't safe. I have heard that is the most tested anti depressant though

I think my midwife said citalopram is safe? I don't know though, my retired GP mum was telling me about research papers she'd read about birth defects and autism links and i got scared, so i came off them completely and gave myself plenty of time to get used to being unmedicated before TTC.

SomeoneElseEntirelyNow · 22/06/2020 20:49

AD is antidepressants

Mo81 · 22/06/2020 20:49

AD stands for anti depressants hun .
