Hiya, DH and I are casually trying for #2 - I think we were quite accurate on my ovulation day according to an app I use which said I ovulated on the 5th. I have been testing for a week now (bad I know!) and I have gotten the FAINTEST pregnancy test lines which are grey multiple times. It doesn't matter what brand I use, both myself and my husband can see these lines on the sensitive tests. I tried to take pictures but the camera won't pick them up they are seriously that faint. Over the week they haven't gotten any darker either, regardless if it's FMU or not. I just want to know if I will lose this pregnancy or not I suppose - my period is due tomorrow but I am having so much mucus like when I was pregnant before. Should I get my hopes up? I'm 13DPO according to my app. Many thanks.

Feel like such an idiot, been looking at forums all morning about faint lines and everyone's seems so much darker than mine already - I've attached pictures but you can't see anything, I got my last positive with my first baby at 10DPO and it was so dark you couldn't miss it.

I’m afraid I can’t see anything on either of those tests. I’m not sure there’s much else you can do but wait a few days and re-test. I know the wait is total agony 😕 Wishing you lots of luck🤞🏻

I know, we both agree we can't see anything in the pictures either but in person they are definitely there, thanks so much for your input :) I think it might be a chemical, you'd think over a week it would have gotten even a tiny bit darker but nothing, I'll test again in a week and see where I am if AF hasn't arrived yet.

Have been in similar situation in the past, and for your mental wellbeing advise not testing at least until period due, because of stuff like this. Especially if you’re seeking to be ‘casual’ with ttc.

This is going to sound mad, but try testing with his wee and compare. Evaporation lines can be a bugger. Honestly, for 13dpo I would be expecting a definite line.

calzone2018 · 18/06/2020 10:30

@RoLaren I will definitely try to use his tomorrow morning and I'll do another and we will compare - I know, with my first the line was so dark, I was getting positives on digital tests and everything - what I don't understand is I have used four different brands now and within the time frame I get a tiny slither of a line, barely enough to see but it is definitely there regardless which is why I suspect a chemical pregnancy. I just don't understand it.

@Dozer I know and I feel like such an idiot now. My periods are all over the place so I was expecting a negative so I could have a few drinks and not worry about it. Really regret it, I've been trying not to let it play on my mind but I can't help it now that I've seen a line - just wish my period would come if this pregnancy isn't viable!

If the faint lines are appearing after the time (not later - ‘evaps’) it could indeed be a v v early MC.

Csari · 18/06/2020 10:39

Is it possible that its the test strip you are seeing? Like someone else said try with your DH wee or with water and compare. I find that if I look hard enough I can nearly always see it, especially with FRER at the moment which is really annoying. Hopefully its not and you get your BFP really soon x

Dozer · 18/06/2020 10:40

Don’t beat yourself up - many, many of us have been there, and some of us lots of times!

Testing does give rise to lots of thoughts/feelings, and can be v unsettling. For me personally the peace of mind from NOT testing until at least period was due (obvs that’s trickier with an irregular cycle) outweighed my desire to drink more than a couple of units of alcohol at a time. It was difficult at times with DH and friends frequently drinking much more than that, and the social pressure, which in itself made me reflect further on what I wanted to do with respect to alcohol.

calzone2018 · 18/06/2020 10:57

@Csari We are sure it isn't the test. We did another test where I showed my husband the strip before and we both confirmed that there was nothing there - and after testing something definitely does come up. My husband is so negative too so I know for sure he'd say if he couldn't see anything, he doubts absolutely everything as he doesn't want to get my hopes up but even he said he could see something.

@Dozer I really should have waited - in the end I didn't even drink anything because I'm too nervous that this pregnancy will actually pick up but I know in my heart it isn't going to be viable. It's only the first month so I shouldn't be too disappointed but it does sting a little.

I will test tomorrow against water and will see if I can tell the difference between the two. If it's any stronger I will update tomorrow but I very much doubt it. Thanks everyone for your suggestions, and thank you for making me feel like I'm not completely insane :)

Honestly, a lot of people have been there, myself included. Good luck for tomorrow Flowers

calzone2018 · 19/06/2020 10:24

Just wanted to update you all incase someone stumbles on this with a similar situation to mine. My period hasn't started but we both can't see any more lines and I'm beginning to cramp so I think it was most likely a chemical. Hoping next month we will get a different outcome Smile

I'm so sorry to hear that. Early faint positives are awful. Look after yourselves and take heart Flowers
