Chemical pregnancy 40+

I'm currently TTC and have just had a chemical pregnancy. I'm 42 and can't help but freak out that that was my chance and I've lost it. I was doing some googling and I know it can be due to chromosomal issues but I also read it can be that the egg is fertilised but basically too old so it can't develop properly.

Has anyone in their 40s had a chemical and gone on to get pregnant again fairly quickly?

Hi - I'm really sorry for your loss; I've had a chemical pregnancy (after IVF) so I know how upsetting it can be, and the panic that sets in.

Have you thought about having a fertility screen? I remember at my IVF clinic they offered a fertility MOT for about £200, and it was basically hormone tests. One thing they check is AMH levels, which will give you an indication of ovarian reserve. It won't tell you anything about egg quality, but if your levels are good and showing you have plenty of eggs left, then the outlook is good. If not, then you'll at least know that you might need some help.

Hi OP - I'm almost 41 and after a year of trying I had a CP 2 cycles ago. It's miserable and you have my sympathies.
I know lots of people view it as a positive that at least you 'got pregnant'. I have to say I don't feel quite so positive :/

I didn't know about a fertility MOT. I will have a look into it.

Hi OP. I had a chemical pregnancy at 42, just before my 43rd birthday and three months later I conceived (at 43). I'm 12 weeks now and going for a scan tomorrow. Chemical pregnancies are common at any age I think. Good luck!

@Icouldstillbejoseph are you still trying? How long ago were your losses? I've had multiple miscarriages before (but I also have two children (22 year age gap) so I know I can maintain a pregnancy but miscarriages far outweigh the number of live births.

Hi OP. I am very sorry for your loss - a chemical is very painful for many women going through the mill of ttc. I had 3 early losses between 40 and 41. I was distraught, the final one was about 7 weeks and just the end of the world as far as I was concerned. I fell pregnant with my DS 7 days after I passed that one, he is now 19 months and arrived just after I turned 41. I'm pregnant again with my third, 32 weeks, which was completely unexpected although very welcome and again have had an uneventful time apart from GD.

The only thing I did differently this 4th & 5th time was baby aspirin. Worth looking at.

@kirinm yes still trying - a lot! The CP was one cycle ago and I have 2 DC from a previous relationship but that was 10 years ago. This was my first loss.
