Hi everyone new to this but was wondering Is there someone on this that I could possibly speak to about helping me figure out the chances of the kid that's on the way being mine or not?

Sure tell us the dates and we will see what we can figure out.

Squilly123 · 17/06/2020 07:24

Hi so basically she last slept with her ex on the 12 or 13 Feb then our first time was the 15 or 16 then her last period started on the 17 of Feb we found out she was pregnant on the 16 March with a clearblue test that said 1-2 weeks but we went for the first scan on the 14 may and the midwife said she was 12 weeks 6 days

I'm a bit confused.....she slept with the other bloke BEFORE her last period on the 17th February therefore assuming she hasn't slept with him after this date then the baby would surely be yours???

Shelley54 · 17/06/2020 07:29

If the two partners were within days of each other like that then there's no way of being sure until the baby's here and a DNA test can be done. The scan doesn't date 100% and sperm can last 5 days so even if she got pregnant on a day that you slept with her, it might not be your sperm that did it.

Unfortunately you'll need to wait and do a test.

Shelley54 · 17/06/2020 07:30

I read it as both partners being active on February, then this "period" and now the new partner is continued.

If you're talking one in Feb and one in March then it's much clearer.

WhoUsedMyName · 17/06/2020 07:32

But surely she was pregnant when she's telling u she had a period 😑

Squilly123 · 17/06/2020 07:36

The problem that I'm at just now is I dont understand the ovulation stuff people have been telling me different things going by the weeks on the scan it's a 50 50 shot but going by the pregnancy test then I looked at a pregnancy calculator online they work out to be the same weeks then its definitely mine so which would I be best going with? Just for some form of peace of mind until we can get a dna test

According to the clearblue test the baby was conceived between the week beginning 2 march and 9 march and the pregnancy calculator I used said the most probable dates of conception going by the first day of her last period says the most probable time of conception was between feb 29 and march 4 but why does the scans say it was the week before her last period that is what's mainly confusing me on this

The NHS dates from the first date of the last period rather than from conception, so that would be why they are dating it like they are. If I were you I would still probably get a DNA test when the little one arrives though.

Squilly123 · 17/06/2020 08:01

Yes we will definitely be getting a dna test but with do u mean that going by the dates of conception there is a high chance this could be mine?

OP posts:
Brenna24 · 17/06/2020 08:02

The standard method of dating a pregnancy is from the first day of the last period, so 2 weeks before the actual conception. So you should add 14 days to the dates given to you by the 12 week scan to estimate the date of conception. However that is still an estimate and can be out by a week or more as the scans are not accurate and sperm can live for up to 7 days. Does that help?

SunnySideUp2020 · 17/06/2020 08:09

@brenna24 agree with your explanation but shouldn't he subtract two weeks from nhs 12 week scan to get the approximate conception date?
So from the day of the scan on 14th May conception was 10 weeks 6 days before that.

SunnySideUp2020 · 17/06/2020 08:11

@Squilly123
So conception around 28th february... you are most likely the dad. It all adds up tbh.

Squilly123 · 17/06/2020 08:14

Yes that has helped alot and by going for what ur saying his sperm wouldve lasted in her up until the 20 feb and adding 14 days onto the date from the scan makes it the 28th and in my opinion that sounds like there is a higher chance of being mine n that's probably the best news I've heard for a while
