Anyone had any luck getting coil removed?

Apologies if this has already been asked several times but I can’t find a recent thread!

I remember talking to a others in the same situation a few months. I really want to ttc as soon as possible, but my GP and sexual health clinic won’t let me have an appointment.

Is everyone in the same boat? I understand why they’re not doing it, but it is frustrating at the same time. Sad

Hi!
I am in a similar situation although it is an implant I need removing, not a coil. I have been told the same that they can’t do this st the moment which is understandable but still very frustrating! After some thought I have decided to get mine removed privately. I don’t know if that would be an option for you? It will be much quicker! I am having to pay £139 to get mine removed privately at the end of this month.
One thing I will say is that I had to phone around quite a few private clinics before I found one that can do it. Some of the first ones I called have given use of their premises to nhs and couldn’t do it but after a few phone calls I found somewhere willing to do it.
Good luck x

Hi!

I managed to get mine removed last Friday (12th June). I called my GP expecting to prebook for July or August and she said she could see me 3 days later.

It's worth trying your GP or your local family planning clinic. In my area (Kent) the family planning clinic wouldn't remove it but GP would.

Fingers crossed for you x

I have a friend who has been waiting months for one to be inserted. No appointments at the moment.

Makes you realise how reliant you are on others for your reproductive rights...

@FattyIDingAsThinny
It certainly does make you think. I’ve used the implant for over 6 years with no issues but tbh the hassle I’ve had trying to get someone to remove it has put me off using it in future.
I know these are very unusual times but people do have these inserted on the premise they can be removed any time, which certainly isn’t the case at the moment, and we don’t even have any indication when this service might resume. I can understand them not being done in March/April/May but now I feel people should be able to have them removed/inserted. If theme parks can open soon surely a woman should have the right to have control over her own reproductive system!

When I asked to have mine removed at the end of April the receptionist at my GPs surgery said they were not doing any procedures like that...

I asked her whether she'd be able to write a note to the doctor (they can do this). The next day they rang back and the doctor said they'd do it for me that day.

So... I would definitely suggest trying to get hold of an actual doctor as they're usually more reasonable (especially with the coil as it literally takes seconds to take out!)

I am now 7 weeks pregnant.
Good luck to you all and I hope you get them taken out soon!!! 🤞🏼✨

Hello I had mine out in may, they wouldn't remove it at first unless I was in pain, I felt really disappointed and it was messing up my body I was bleeding for 2 weeks at a time etc, so I rang back and exaggerated my pain I guess, they removed it the same day, currently on my 2nd cycle TTC x

I need one put in.

Round here it was 3 to 4 months wait for an appointment pre COVID so I hate to think what it’s like now and how many unplanned pregnancies have happened in that time I looked into having it done privately and including initial consultation followed by the actual insertion it was coming in at about £700!!
