Trying for a baby after Anorexia

Hi there, I was wondering if any of you have experience trying for a baby after suffering with anorexia? I have suffered for 5 years and lost my period in that time. I have currently managed to maintain a healthy weight now for a year and I’ve only had one very light cycle last month. I have been taking OPKs since, both the cheapies and the clear blue advanced kit. The clear blue showed high fertility (flashing smiley) for 8 days straight but never showed a peak. The cheap ones did go darker but again never reached a peak. So I don’t believe I am ovulating. I am so desperate for a baby now and really losing the will to live sad any advice would be appreciated.

Laura

I think you probably need to ask your GP about this. You probably need a health check - you could be anaemic etc.

FWIW I had anorexia in my late teens / early 20s and lost my period for a couple of years. I found some old diaries a while ago from after they had returned - my periods were all over the place for ages afterwards. They're regular as clockwork now (many years later, having maintained a normal BMI for nearly all of that time).

My GP gave me some good advice about it years ago when I went to him about my lost periods: maintain a BMI of over 20, get 8 hours of sleep a night and do some moderate exercise. Oh, and keep your iron levels up (Spatone is a good supplement).

Hi, yes I would second the advice about talking to your GP, just for a general health mot. I suffered with Amenorrhea for a number of years and with a bit of consistent work on my health they came back regularly (and have since had a baby). Just wanted to share that to let you know I've been there too x
