Ovulation after a positive OPK

Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding OPK and ovulation timing after a positve . I have read that ovulation can happen 12-36 hours after a peak on opk sticks, but will the opk continue to show a peak/positive until ovulation happens and then become negative after ovulation? Or will it peak and start showing negative immediately after but ovulation still might not have happened yet?
I got a high on OPK on day-1 morning (test line dark but not as dark as control line) and then slightly darker on the same day evening (still not positive). On Day-2 at 11AM, it was almost peak, but still not as dark as the control line and then At 3.30 PM it was lighter than AM, so I am assuming peak would have happened between 11am-3.30 pm. That’s such a small window...does that mean I ovulated in that window? I didn’t test later that day unfortunately. But on Day-3- around 1 pm, the test line was lighter than Day-2 afternoon and has been getting lighter since.
So, did I ovulate in that small window between 11 am - 3.30 pm on day 2 or could I have still ovulated later in day 2 or even day 3?

Thanks!

You ovulate normally 24 -36 hours after beginning of surge so for you I'd say you ovulated on day 3. So 24hrs after the darkest opk.
I have read here that a lot of ladies never actually get that super positive opk but still ovulate. That's probably your case... or as you say you had a small surge. But again doesn't mean anything bad.
Do you have any other symptoms like cm or ovary pain?

It could also be that your wee was too dilute and not enough hormone was being detected.
Did you hold it in for a few hours?

Thanks @SunnySideUp2020
I remember you from another TTC thread. How are you? How’s your TTC journey going on?
Yes Day 3 does seem more likely as the ovulation day. Regarding other symptoms, I don’t normally get ovulation pains and don’t check Cm too...so opk has been my only check so far. I usually get a strong positive that stays for a few hours, sometimes even for a day. So was confused and thought may be I didn’t ovulate 🤷🏻‍♀️
@claireb707 thanks, I do hold for a few hours before I test. I did hold for 3 hours for the day-2 morning test...and around 4 hours for the afternoon test...but did drink coffee and water in between, so not sure if it was too dilute! Too bad I didn't test later that day. I planned to. But got busy with work and forgot Confused
So when opk test is done correctly, should it show positive until ovulation has happened and become negative only after ovulation has happened?

Hey 👋 @Peanutbuttermummy
I am good thanks :)

I am on month 6 since my MC and currently 2 dpo. Dp and I have now gone to private fertility clinic as his sperm came back not great, we both had ureaplasma (so antibiotics) and i had hysterescopy and polyps removed two weeks ago. So hoping that with all of that cleared and daily supplements for dp from now we are able to conceive in the next 3/4 months 😁
Otherwise the clinic will do an insemination in autumn. But they are confident we will do it naturally.

Re your opk if you usually get a strong perhaps this time you missed it by an hour or so...
Some months mine are extra strong and some month they are just normal positive so maybe that also can change for you.

How many dpo are you now?

Peanutbuttermummy · 13/06/2020 13:26

@SunnySideUp2020 we are also 6 months since MC in Dec, but TTC cycle 3 as we took a break... I'll be 2 dpo if I ovulated on day 3 or 3dpo if I did the day before...so same as you in the TWW 😁...not very hopefully though as I feel I might not have ovulated...but keeping a little bit of hope in case I did and missed the surge like you said..
Sounds like a tough few weeks for you...well done for persevering and looks like you have a good plan in place. 🤞all is cleared for you and you get a bfp naturally... good luck!
