Soy isoflavones - dosage help!

Hi Everyone! I'm new here but have been reading lots of posts on this subject which I've found very helpful - my husband and I are TTC, I came off the BC pill in January and only now had my first period, jump-started by using 180mg of soy isoflavones for 5 days. I'm trying to make sure my cycles keep coming, and also extend my luteal phase (tiny at the moment), so started taking them again last night (CD 3) but took only 120mg, as I want to see if my body will respond to a lower does.

Do you think I should keep this lower dose for the 5 days, or go back to the 180mg for days 3-5? My capsules are 60mg each so those are my two dosage options!

Many thanks in advance for any insight!! :) :)

I think a lot of women seem to do 3 days at a lower dose so in your case the 120mg, then fit the final 2 days give it a boost so do the higher 180mg dose.

I have taken them the last 2 months and took them cd3-7 and did 160mg for the first 3 days then boosted to 200mg for the final 2. My tablets are 40mg each.

@Moominmiss thank you so much :)! That's what I was thinking of doing - how have they been working for you?

I just recovered my cycle after the pill so want to make sure it keeps coming regularly before trying to do it on my own...!

No worries 😊

I took them to try and bring my ovulation forward as I was ovulating on cd22 making my cycles 37 days long. It’s done what I needed it to the last 2 months and has brought my ovulation forward to cd14!

I’m thinking about not using them next cycle just to see if my body will go back to ovulating late or if I’ve managed to regulate it yet.

ana6989 · 08/06/2020 18:44

@Moominmiss that's amazing! I'm so glad they worked for you :) I took them for this last cycle (first one in a while) and I ovulated super soon after finishing them, and had a tiny LP (5 - 6 days) - so I'm hoping to improve that this time arund!

Please let us know how it goes if you decide not to take them next time, as well! I'd also want to know if my body can handle it by itself...!

I will definitely let you know how it goes and if I go back to a later ovulation!!!

Hi @ana6989 and @Moominmiss, I know this thread is from a month or so ago, but just come across it and wondered how your both getting on with SI? I'm considering trying it before I get put on Clomid and just wondered how you've found it? Sorry to jump in!

MintGreenLife · 12/07/2020 00:05

Am just posting so I can bookmark this - am 3 months off the pill and possibly not ovulating yet, if I am it's very late in my cycle and having a 3/4 day luteal phase! So may try this if things don't look a bit better soon

ana6989 · 12/07/2020 01:48

Hi! I’m not sure these really worked for me honestly - I tried the 180 dose and ended up getting a period very soon after finishing, but don’t think I actually ovulated. The next month I tried 120 and nothing happened. I am now actually on clomid but a very small dose (25mg) - depending on how this goes I might give the SI another try, but definitely at the higher dose, as the lower one did nothing....

@Tink2019 see above! Just wondering, do you ovulate on your own?

Tink2019 · 12/07/2020 16:46

@ana6989 With OPKs and temps I definitely seem to ovulate most months but there are some that I don't think I have - guess this is why Clomid has been suggested. Would just rather try something natural first if it might work - but then if not ovulating every cycle may be no point! Hope Clomid works for you 🤞🏻

Moominmiss · 15/07/2020 09:30

@Tink2019 hiya, well I think I’ve done 3 cycles using SI and have fallen pregnant while taking them, but mc. But getting pregbsnt wasn’t my issue, I ovulate late in my cycles and wanted to bring it forward, which it did. My last cycle I ovulated on cd13, and the ones before that cd14. Whereas before taking them it’d be cd21/22.

I took 160mg cd3, 4 and 5, then 200mg cd6 and 7.

I’m currently on cd4 but not taking them this cycle as I’ve had some fertility blood tests and have more later in my cycle so wanted this cycle to be totally natural so they get an idea of what’s happening with me.

Will be interesting to see if my ovulation date goes back to being later or if it sticks at the new earlier date.

I’d say if you’re looking to get clomid then SI are definitely worth a try while you wait. They’re cheap enough, I use the tescos own.

Good luck x

Tink2019 · 15/07/2020 09:54

@Moominmiss Thank you so much for coming back to me and I'm so sorry to hear about your mc.

I ovulate CD20 normally, but last month it was CD25, so would love to bring it forward. Great that yours has come forward and like you said interesting to see if it'll go back to normal this cycle. I've actually just started the Tesco ones 😊 Taking 80, 80, 80, 120, 120 at night because I suffer with migraines so want to start low. I only started CD5 because had bloods on CD3 and also wanted those to be natural (they're not doing a CD21 progesterone test but may push for it), so not expecting it to come forward this cycle but we'll see! Will start CD3 next cycle and up the dose if all ok next couple of days.

Thinking of adding in B3 after I ovulate as read it can help with the luteal phase - mines not too short, averages 12/13 days, but my temps rise very slowly and there's not a huge shift so I wonder if there's a progesterone deficiency of some sort 🤷🏼‍♀️

Good luck with your bloods xx

AnxiousAnnie86 · 15/07/2020 10:07

I'm on my second cycle taking them as ovulation was so irregular, three cycles before Were days, 17,32,26 last month (first month taking soy I ovulated Cd19, this month I have ovulated Cd14, 2 days ago, which is yet to be confirmed by temps, I'm the same @Moominmiss wondering to stop taking and see if body has regulated, but might give it one more so do three cycles and then see what happens, I will be two months into accupuncture then too xx

zippityzip · 17/07/2020 13:43

Hi there @ana6989

I'm giving these a go this month - I plan on taking 120mg, 120mg, 160mg, 160mg and then 200mg. I got the 40mg brand from tesco.

My period is due Sunday - I'm getting BFNs Sad so once my cycle starts hopefully this will help with ovulation. Never seen a peak on OPKs but I've been using cheapies so going to invest in a CB and track my cycle better.

Heading into cycle 4 TTC.
