One step hcg tests.. Help and advice!

Hello everyone! I am 37, no babies yet, and ttc. (Second cycle trying “seriously” with opk s) I have been reading forums like crazy, symptom spotting like crazy and now I am asking for help!

I am 11 dpo on an irregular cycle (sometimes it’s 27 days, sometimes it’s 33. This month I think it will be 33 as I ovulated on cd 18 and I am on cd 29 now)

I have been going through tests like there is no tomorrow. I am using the amazon cheapies one step. So long story short (or as short as I can make it :-) ).....:

Yesterday I tested (not with fmu) and I saw a squinter of a line, I would have thought it was a ghost line/ evap but I have done so many one step tests before and I never ever saw an evap line (the only difference is in my previous amazon order, the one step tests I had received were 3.5mm in width and had the letters hcg printed on the blue part. This batch I am using now is 2.5 mm in width and no letters are printed on the blue part.. has anyone noticed any difference between these two sizes in terms of Evaps?)
I then help my urine and took another test yesterday afternoon and it was a bfn.

This morning, I woke up for some reason at 5am and took another test, I was so tired I barely looked at it and when I woke up hours later I saw another line, slightly stronger than yesterday but still I don’t think there is color.

I tested AGAIN with the urine I held in between 5 am and 10 am, and it was a BFN, no evap/ghost line or any line at all. Then tested again still bfn

I know you are going to say to wait and test again tomorrow, but in the mean time.. my impatience is really taking over.. what do you think? I am really anxious here because I have wanted a baby for so long and for many many reasons I had to wait until now, age 37, to start trying.

I am attaching the pic of the 5 am test.
Thank so much!

I can't view your pic properly for some reason but my advice anyways is ditch the ICs, they are crap. I had loads of grey lines on mine and wasn't pregnant. They just cause more confusion than anything else! However I have seen positives on here which start out like that ... If so you'd get a clear positive on a first response by now so I'd grab one of those asap! Good luck with the further tests!

chillichutneysarnie · 07/06/2020 10:53

Oh and dip an IC in water and see if you get a line.

Thanks @chillichutneysarnie ! Strange you can't see the pics! One is a normal pic and the other is the negative of it. Thanks for the advice, I wish I had the strength to ditch them, but I am finding out I am a compulsive tester... and these I guess give me the "fix" I need with testing :-). I will buy a frer and use it tomorrow but just waiting 1 day is freaking me out..

I just tried the pics again and can see them now! Actually your line looks pretty dark, compared to what I got so that's hopeful. I know exactly what you mean, I've been like that with the cheapies for months but finally got rid this month! It's additive. Can you get a different test today to do this afternoon? Maybe just an own brand supermarket one to compare?

steph365 · 07/06/2020 11:20

@chillichutneysarnie I live in Italy and unfortunately there are very few own brand tests (which still cost a lot, like 10 euros) but the own brands are not ultra sensitive so work only after af doesn't show, the only option really is clear blue to test pre-af.. but it's so expensive (like 20 euros) that I am hesitant to use it on afternoon urine..
also I only have like 4 ICs left .. if I had more I would keep testing with those just for the sake of it..
I have to say I am not very hopeful just because as I wrote I got bfn on two tests after this one in the pic.. holding in for like 1 hour .. ah the anxiety!

Agh that sounds like torture! Whereabouts in Italy do you live? I love it there. Are you 12dpo now? I reckon you should do another one with fmu tomorrow, if you have 4 you could do one every 2 days to ration them.

steph365 · 08/06/2020 14:20

@chillichutneysarnie I live in Milan! I gave in and tried to hold last evening since I went out and bought weird clear blue that is digital but it shows only a + symbol or - ( so on the digital screen) I bought it because it was the only one they had that said " up to 6 days sooner" it was a bfn. I think though the marketing text on the box is misleading bc it said in the instructions that if you test 4 days sooner it gives a 50 /50 chance for a bfp. I read really bad amazon reviews but only after buying two of them at the shop..

This morning I had terrible pms pains which now are just dull pains.. so I didn't test with fmu... of course I gave in with smu and tried with the second to last one step I have ... bfn which turned to ghost line after 30 min and now the ghost line disappeared. I think I am out.. my app says af should arrive in 3 days so I think I am just going to wait it out.. I am so sad :-(

Aw I'm sorry to hear that. I can't believe that shocking evap if you're really not pregnant, they shouldn't be allowed to sell them! But you never know, the witch might not show - keep me updated if anything changes! I'm waiting for AF in 5 days and just got the usual PMT irrational anger.. so I guess she's going to appear bang on time! I was sure our timing was perfect this month, grr. This not having any control over matters really is the worst!
