Ovulating after microgynon

Hello, I stopped taking microgynon 43 days ago. I had the initial withdrawal bleed 3 days after taking microgynon and have not had a cycle since. I took a pregnancy test around 28 days after the withdrawal bleed and it came back negative. I'm worried that I havent had a normal period yet and what this might mean? I've read that the body can take some time to get back to normal after taking microgynon. My fiance and I want to get pregnant however we didnt want to be actively trying to conceive as we didnt want to put pressure on ourselves. But because I havent had a normal period yet I am already overthinking. Any advice or your experience with coming off microgynon would be so appreciated :)

Hello, I know this was posted a while ago but just wondered if you had an update? I came off of microgynon recently to try to conceive. I had a withdrawal bleed and have been using ovulation tests since but nothing so far!

@JL21
Only seen this post as you've replied.
I was on microgynon for very long time.
Took me just over 7 weeks I think for my first proper AF. I did cheap opks and miraculously caught an LH surge and AF came 2 weeks later. My particular doc said to get back in touch if nothing after 3 months but obviously everyone is different.

Teacaketotty · 11/02/2021 23:18

Just to say I was on it for a couple of years and it took a little while to clear out of my system I think!

AF was all over the place for a good few months, and we took around 8 months to conceive but may not have been related. I decided not to go back on it after I had DD as we want to have another in the next year or so and I didn’t want the hassle again! Although I may have the same issue when I have my IUD removed we shall see.

Good luck to you x

Hi took me three months to conceive my son after microgynon but I remember wanting to speak to the gp cuz I thought it was taking a while (he was our first) took a full year with our daughter but she was after nexplanon.

That’s interesting, that’s the pill I used, when I came off it I had the same thing, and then my periods stopped, I got to the third month and they were going to put me on fertility drugs, to bring them back, I was seen by a consultant at the hospital. I had negative tests and scans. I did fall pregnant before the third month period would have been due, and actually found out the day I was due to collect the drugs from my gp.

It caused rhem concern with dating me. But I was clearly ovulating during this time as I fell pregant.

I didn’t expect to wake up to so many replies!

I did expect it to take a while for my body to get adjusted (I had been on the pill for almost 10 years) but it’s easy to overthink everything, but I’ll just keep calm, my first real AF is expected tomorrow but no symptoms yet and don’t catch a surge so we’ll see

Arrierttyclock · 13/02/2021 09:02

I'm wondering the same thing. I stopped the pill on 23rd jan. had WB 26th, thought I'd try ovulation sticks and got my flashing smiley on the 4th feb but 10 days later and I haven't got my static so just going to see what happens and if Af makes an appearance. I did have ovulation pains and some CM so I assume I ovulated but the tests said I never reached my peak. So we shall see!

JL21 · 13/02/2021 09:48

@Arrierttyclock
I’m the exact same!
Stopped the pill on the 13th, had withdrawal bleed for 4 days. Had cramps and cm change around the 29th but didn’t hit a surge with the ovulation tests.
Today is cycle 28, no AF but a negative pregnancy test. Just waiting for AF to arrive and go from there

MrsL2016 · 13/02/2021 09:53

My first cycle after stopping microgynon was 49 days. I then got pregnant the next month.

CycloGoose · 13/02/2021 10:42

Yes, definitely don't be too worried about a long cycle first month after coming off. My first cycle was 9 weeks exactly but, very randomly, I did spot my LH surge. Cycles since have been consistently 28 days until this month when I've got AF when implantation should be. Really hoped yesterday it was implantation bleeding but it's turned into full flow and I'm devastated and confused. 34 and starting to think something might not be quite right. Most GP recommend not trying properly until you've had your first real AF but I think that's mainly to make their job dating the pregnancy easier. Good luck on your TTC journey. And congratulations @MrsL2016

When I stopped taking it after 20 years on it, I got my first period around a month after the withdrawal bleed then got pregnant second month trying. I think some people can take a few months to get back to normal patterns after it though. Good luck.

NeverRTFT · 13/02/2021 11:03

That's really interesting to read. I was on microgynon for about 10 years. It took us 18 months to conceive - same for both DC (I think I went back on it in between pregnancies but can't totally remember). We ended up in fertility clinic about to start down that road when pregnancy happened.
Never heard before about microgynon being hard to clear from your system
