Hello all, has anyone, unusually, had a late period and found out the reason why?

3 miscarriages and 1 successful delivery, our fertility journey has been very difficult. First time in 26 years (I'm 40) and my period is 5 days late. Tested every day and they are all negative. Absolutely no idea why I'm late x

Hi @Siamf,

Didn't want to read and run.

My period last month was also 5 days late and I usually am bang on a 28 day cycle. I had to have a termination back in March for Edwards syndrome; initial scans showed everything had returned to normal and I got my period in April as per my 28 day cycle. We started ttc again after this cycle and like you I was testing every day with BFN. I finally started my AF - albeit 5 days late.

There could be many causes for the delay though...some of them being:

  • are you taking any new supplements. Sometimes, these supplements can extend your cycle (most people take them to regulate their cycles)
  • have you recently come off the pill or had a mc? If this is true, then your body may just be taking its time in trying to reset itself....
  • have you been stressed - sounds obvious, But if we are overwhelmed then our bodies aren't at their most receptive.

I would suggest that you wait another week and then go to your GP for more tests, as there is always an off chance that you are indeed pregnant and your HCG isn't showing up (like its supposed to). More likely than not though, AF will show up, she has a funny way of messing with our minds!

Hope this helps a bit. Please be kind to yourself xoxo

Hi op, I’m usually bang on every month so when I was a few days late I took a test and it was negative. I waited a few more days and did another- still negative. On the tenth day I decided to do another before ringing my GP, and it was positive. When I went for my first scan I wasn’t as far along as my LMP had dated me, and they said I must have ovulated later than I thought.

The only other time it’s been out of sync is when I’ve stopped breastfeeding or when I’ve come off the pill. Hope everything works out ok for you.
