Help!

I've been doing ovulation tests for the last few months. Came off depo injection in February and not had a period since (or any while I was on them)

All the Ov tests have been negative, no line or very faint.

But then I did one yesterday first thing in the morning and I was pretty sure it was positive. (Test on right) Did another one later in the day and it was negative!! (Test on left)

What do you lot think? Positive on right one, not on left, or negative on both?

Not quite positive yet. OPKs have to be darker than the control line to be positive but you should be DTD anyway! You're close!

Thank you @teddybeans
I've just done another one and it's really faint again. I just dont get it Sad

Oh wait hang on I've reread your post (I misunderstood the order) looks like you've passed ovulation in that case

NowSissyThatWalk · 03/06/2020 19:26

Ah I see what you're saying. So I was and now I'm not?

You should do OPKs every few hours to hit ovulation on the head but avoiding the first wee of the day. Don't forget the test checks for elevated levels of LH but once that peaks (positive OPK) ovulation actually happens 24-48 hours later. You may still be in with a chance!

Thank you. I'm worried I've missed the boat. Not having had a period for nearly two years has really confused my body!

Can I ask - why should I avoid the first wee of the day? I thought that was the best time? Blush

The test line doesn’t need to be darker , the same colour or very very close is still positive.

NowSissyThatWalk · 03/06/2020 19:37

Oh I hope so @ToothFairyNemesis !

Just don't know why it would be positive and then 5 hours later negative...

Ovulation tests are confusing aren't they.

  1. Don't use FMU - that's the best for pregnancy tests but not ovulation as LH which is what they test for, builds up/is released through the day. Try and test at roughly the same time each day.
  2. LH surges- which give a positive ovulation test - can be very short. It's very easy to miss it and not get a true positive ovulation test. If you've had tests getting progressively darker and then lighter, chances are you had your LH surge in between.
  3. Ovulation tests test for the surge which prompts ovulation NOT ovulation itself. I know that sounds daft. So you could ovulate up to 24/48 hours after that surge and the egg can survive for another say 24 hours after release so it's not too late to BD.

I hope that helps. I use them to confirm when I think I'm ovulating because of other symptoms such as EWCM. Good luck!

As pp said test several times a day to catch a surge, I start testing from around cycle day 11 (but I don't test twice a day until a couple of days later) and see the lines progress to a positive, which usually happens a day before ovulation for me. Apparently best time to test is afternoon with opks, so maybe do one about 1pm and then another a few hours later

LH doesn’t stay in your system for long as long as you had sex on Tuesday , tonight and hopefully either last Sunday or Monday possibly even Saturday then you are in with a good chance of the timing being correct.

You've all been very helpful, thank you. Once again MN comes up trumps.
