Dilemma - what would you do?

Hi all,

I’m new here this is my first post. This month is the first month of me and my partner TTC. According to clearblue digital test, I believe I ovulated somewhere between 20th/22nd. I have since had some mild period like cramping over the last few days and as of today my boobs are sore. However I have no idea if actually this is how I always feel at various stages of my cycle and I’ve just never paid attention to it and am now symptom spotting Hmm.

So, my dilemma is that this coming Saturday 6/6/20 my best friend is hosting a (socially distanced) garden gathering for the girls to finally catch up and celebrate a few of our birthdays that were missed over lockdown. It sounds like it will be a boozy day. I am not due my period until the following week - 10/6/20. Therefore I am torn about what to do - if I don’t drink the girls will be suspicious and I am reluctant to discuss it with anybody this early one, I would like to have a few drinks (if I don’t end up positive this month, I’ll be a bit annoyed to have missed out!), but at the same time I’m anxious that if by some miracle I am pregnant our first month of trying, I absolutely want to do everything I can do give it the best chance of being successful.

What would you do?
Thanks :)

If you are pregnant, the placenta will not yet be fully formed and so the alcohol will not be able cross over to the foetus anyway. I'd have a drink or two, but in moderation.

Just relax and have a drink, even if you are pregnant, it won’t have an effect this early on. Trust me as someone who is now on cycle 10 of trying, don’t live your life on “could be’s”. Until you get those two lines, enjoy yourself and have a few drinks x

Thank you Smile Good luck with the rest of your journey x

I would drink as normal until a positive test but keep off shots!

If you ovulated on the 22nd that would make you 14dpo on the 5th so very likely of getting an accurate pregnancy test result.

Id test before the party. If you ovulated the 22nd you should have a line by then xx

Go and enjoy yourself. If it would make you feel better test the morning before.

Turtle07 · 01/06/2020 20:32

So if I were to test that morning before I go out, is a positive or negative result fairly accurate/reliable at that point, even though it’s 4-5 days before my period is due? Like if it is negative, is that pretty certain to be a no for this month regardless of it being before AF? Sorry for all the questions, I feel like a fish out of water it’s all new to me! Thanks for your advice so far Smile x

Yea once you hit 14DPO you’re more than likely to have a reliable positive or negative. Your AF due date doesn’t matter, it’s all about the DPO. Just do a test that morning x

Turtle07 · 02/06/2020 01:21

Cool thanks. Any recommendations for early tests?x

14DPO wouldn’t even be early to test so any should be fine, although FRER (First Response Early Results) is generally the most reliable x
