Hey guys,
I'm trying for the first time. Like a lot of people youre told so often that as soon as you miss a pill you'll get pregnant.... Then you want to and it seems actually it can take months. So I am nervous. Any advice for a newbie. I've had my withdrawal bleed and having sex regularly. I'm tracking using opks so I will be interested to see how long I take to ovulate after stopping the pill. Anyone in the same position....? Ooo and what do I do about caffeine and alcohol whilst ttc? Xx

Stopped taking my pill in December so moving onto my official 6th cycle today since I'm pretty sure AF is making an appearance 🙄

33Carr · 31/05/2020 21:55

I switched to de-caff a while back but still have the occasionally drink here and there (weekends), don't see the harm untill I get a positive

misseb89 · 31/05/2020 22:20

Hey, I'm the same as you! Stopped the mini pill 2 weeks ago and had spotting. Now nothing and all OPKs are negative. Anxiously waiting for AF!

I've been having an alcoholic drink once a week perhaps but still drinking tea. I'm more aware of
What I'm eating and trying to up my fruit and veg etc.

SVC11 · 31/05/2020 22:51

@misseb89 @LuluFireray @33Carr nice to hear from you guys. Yeah I'm going to improve my diet from now... Sort of had a last hurrah weekend before I knuckle down a bit. I think I'm going to be so impatient.... I need to get my head round the fact this may take a while... Good luck @LuluFireray for this cycle!

Hey @SVC11- I came off the pill and didnt ovulate till ~CD 74. Now CD 76, no period yet so we will see what happens next! I'm not consuming alcohol and am sticking to one caffeinated drink (latte) a day.

My recommendations:

  1. Go on folic acid now if you arent already. Crucial for very early foetal development. Like, your baby needs it before you'd even know you were pregnant.
  2. have sex every 2nd or 3rd day, then every day for 3-4 days around ovulation
  3. use cheapie ovulation test sticks to get a handle on when that is
  4. remember up to a year TTC is totally normal and doesnt mean anything is wrong
  5. also your cycles may not normalise/ period might not come back for up to 6mo. You can approach the GP about it in the uk if it doesnt come back after 3mo.
  6. they also recommend vitamin D for women TTC and their partners cause most uk people are deficient in it. There are other vitamins some people take but if you have no underlying health issues they are all optional and none proven to inc chances in healthy people
SVC11 · 01/06/2020 00:23

Yep am on folic acid and vit d. Obviously hoping for a quick return to normal cycle but am preparing myself for a much longer wait. Grin am testing with ovulation sticks for now and prob will for the first few months, especially if I don't get my af. As who knows what could happen. Just looking for a little bit of support really so thanks so much for your tips! It's weird that ttc is so secretive... I get it, but it's such a huge life changing thing, so it's nice to come on here!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 01/06/2020 08:22

Hey @SVC11 - it is so weird! I've been talking about it a bit with closest pals but only one is in the same rough life stage (if that makes sense). My husband is clearly finding it quite interesting too - a lot more complex than he thought!

Now I'm in my first ever TWW I am definitely falling into the symptom spotting trap. Problem is, as I was on the pill for 12yrs I dont know what symptoms will happen for me with every ovulation!

1992EM · 01/06/2020 08:31

Can I please join this thread? AF has arrived for me so onto next month ttc. I came off the pill last August and my period went more or less back to normal within 3 months. I normally have 30 day cycles but this month was 35 (first month ttc) . Hopefully June is a lucky month . I have been taking pregnecare for over a month now. I also had no idea how difficult it was to get pregnant.

SVC11 · 01/06/2020 08:35

So exciting on your first tww though! You must be excited let us know how it goes. I think I'd have to try and bury my head in the sand until af was due and I needed to test. You're the same as me, I cannot remember for the life of me my cycle length or ovulation symptoms. I just know periods bloody hurt so I am not looking forward to it if I don't catch my cycle and get pregnant! I have been doing opks but should I hold off on those until I'm on a higher CD. Only CD 10 after stopping the pill atm?

Any luck on here yet. No ovulation signs for me yet! X

Hi @SVC11 just saw your post on my homepage, I haven't recently come of the pill (about 2 years ago) but it's taken until recently to get some sort of "normal" for me.. I knew I'd want to ttc for a long time so thought I'd come off it waaay before I started. Like you I had no idea what my cycles/ovulation was like prepill. We started ttc end of march, and after my first proper cycle of trying in april/may, taking pregnacare conception (starting in March), tracking using opks and temping and I'm now 7 weeks pregnant. I'd definitely recommend using opks to catch ovulation and I'd recommend temping (bbt) so you know that you have ovulated. Good luck!

SVC11 · 05/06/2020 09:52

Hey @pol96 I am using opks atm... I haven't been off the pill long... Only 2 weeks so I'm not worried yet lol... I'm just being impatient lol. I was totally naieve to the fact it would take a while for my body to return to normal as I've just been told so much that as soon as you missed a pill you would become pregnant! Would you recommend pregnecare? I'm taking folic acid and vit d separately atm. Congrats on your pregnancy you must be so excited!

OP posts:
Pol96 · 05/06/2020 10:07

@SVC11 I'd definitely recommend it especially if it does take a little while to regulate.. I think its what helped my cycles to become a bit more normal, but as you've only just come of the pill the folic acid and vit d might be absolutely fine for you. Thank you! I'm very excited and so scared something will go wrong too 😅 can't wait to have a scan but seems so far away x

SVC11 · 08/06/2020 23:55

Hey @TheDaydreamBelievers @1992EM and @pol96 how are you getting on?
Pretty sure I've ovulated woo after getting an lh surge and peak yesterday and ewcm (yuk) so into the tww I go? Lets see what happens. No big hopes as I've only been off the pill for 4 weeks but who knows!

OP posts:
TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/06/2020 07:25

Hey @SVC11- thanks for checking in! Congrats on your first ovulation.

Nothing to report here. My AF SHOULD be here by friday or Sunday (12-14 days after ovulation) so would test then if not here. I have stupidly tested once, even though I know it wouldnt show positive even if i was pregnant Hmm - why, me, why do this to yourself?!

I feel a whole load of nothing (eg no symptoms) and kinda wished we had kept DTD every 2 days and testing using ovulation sticks as I just dont trust that my cycle is on any kind of normal. The only thing I feel is blooming exhausted but I think thats just work stress and a bad diet this week. I really do not think I am pregnant. If AF doesnt appear and I'm not pregnant I'm going to get in touch with GP as that will be 3 months with no AF.

@pol96 - congratulations! What a successful first cycle!

Pol96 · 09/06/2020 10:46

@SVC11 hi! Yay for your first ovulation! Good luck with the TWW 🤞

I'm okay, still waiting to hear about my booking appointment and also still not a whole load of symptoms, I just feel.. Bleh.. I keep doing tests to check!

@TheDaydreamBelievers thank you! We got very lucky. Fingers crossed its a sticky bean. I didn't have many symptoms in my TWW, I was tired, and had slightly sore nipples and that was pretty much it. Which compared to the previous cycle where I was sure I was pregnant as had all the symptoms so was different.. Good luck with your TWW

TheDaydreamBelievers · 10/06/2020 21:55

I'm currently ~11 DPO positive OPK, negative pregnancy tests (I said I wouldn't check again but I have). Decided to make a GP appt as this is now 90 days after withdrawal bleed from coming off the pill with no period. I'm just a bit frustrated that I dont even know what my body is doing. I'd be happy with a period OR BFP. Just esnt one of them, not a great big "?!?!"

SVC11 · 11/06/2020 06:52

Urgh how frustrating, so you're ovulating for sure but no af? Hmm. Have you ovulated regularly according to the opks?

OP posts:
TheDaydreamBelievers · 11/06/2020 12:15

@SVC11 - I only used OPKs for last month so only identified one LH surge. Unfortunately LH surges dont mean ovulation for sure, they SHOULD do though. So could be I'm just not ovulating. Which means really I've had no shot at all at getting pregnant across these 3 months. We will see what GP says, not sure if I'm going to have to push it or not.

SVC11 · 17/06/2020 21:53

Coming upto testing day for me on Sunday... Feeling not a lot apart from stomach aches and nausea but I usually get nausea in the mornings anyway (not a morning person)... Not really wanting to get my hopes up but who knows. Any good news from anyone else xx

OP posts:
Pol96 · 18/06/2020 09:48

@SVC11 good luck for the rest of your TWW! 🤞 for you! Also don't worry about not having too many symptoms.. I didn't really have any in my successful TWW.
I finally had my booking appointment on Monday, I called the surgery to chase it up and while I was on the phone to them the midwife called my mobile! Now waiting for my scan letter to come! Xx
