'Hope chests'

Hi everyone! I wanted to make a post about 'hope chests' in the hope that I'm not alone and it's not as strange as everyone IRL thinks Grin I've started collecting little baby bits over the past few months for our hopefully future baby, apparently the name is a 'hope chest'. Just some cute outfits, a teddy, book etc.

I've been off contraception for 18 months & every month it gets harder mentally. Really struggling today. And what am I doing? Looking at baby clothes online Hmm does anyone else do this/collect clothing etc or am I the only weird one Grin I'm not sure if I'm just torturing myself or whether it helps to keep me hopeful!!

I think each to their own infertility is a hard and lonely time everybody had different ways of coping and it's not harming anyone.
It took 4 years to conceive my first then 5 lots of treatment for second pregnancy I personally couldn't have bought things /had them in the house (it took me till about 20 weeks with 1st to buy anything I was in total shock). However I suspect for some it may be a comfort to purchase items (as long as it doesn't become obsessive or feel like a torture).

@Greengrapes1357 oh that must have been tough! You're very right, we are all different and cope in different ways. I'm not a superstitious type so I suppose that side of it doesn't worry me, but I do find it comforting in a way and I know how grateful I'll feel when I do finally get to use the items! ☺️

I'm with @Greengrapes1357 on this one. I had a miscarriage and then took a while to conceive again. I didn't buy anything at all during my pregnancy. I didn't want anything I the house at all.when Dts put in a surprise appearance ten weeks early there was a lot of emergency shopping done.

@AriettyHomily sorry to hear of your loss. Oh wow I can imagine haha! Perhaps it is a bit strange then 😬

@Pawsin I've bought things that I've seen in shops that I've thought that won't be available of/when I have another baby and I've always thought if it doesn't work out I can always donate the stuff to someone else

I bought a tiny pair of socks and kept them secretly in a drawer ... took us about 3 years to conceive (PCOS) but they got used in the end (And never stayed on feet for very long!)

@Pawsin I don’t have a hope chest as such but I have bought a couple of bits to keep me excited. One is a baby grow/comforter set that I’m planning to use to tell DH if/when it happens and the other is a maternity dress that was on sale and I loved ☺️
