Thrush pessary safe in pregnancy?

I'm 22 weeks along and felt the tell tale symptoms of thrush start yesterday. Woke today and the itchiness and burning sensation has intensified. Is it safe to use the canestan pessary?

I was prescribed it at 30 weeks, but was just told to insert it with my finger and not the applicator that comes with it.

I was plagued with thrush during my pregnancy so ended up having to get the treatment twice.

Hope it clears up soon.

Yes as catannoyance says, you can as long as you insert it with your finger not the applicator. I was prescribed it several times throughout my pregnancies

Thanks ladies I'll need to call the doc for a prescription but as tomorrow is a bank holiday I doubt they will be open. Chemist wouldnt give me it today without one! I've had thrush before but this is way worse than I've ever had it, so uncomfortable and sore.

Ditto the no applicator. Make sure you get the pessary and use your finger.

Poor you. I had thrush when I was pregnant years ago over a weekend and checked with both the pharmacist and weekend cover doctor who said it was fine (Canestan and same as CatAnnoyance, told to insert with my finger rather than applicator). You could always check with 111 if you're worried. Hope you feel better soon.

Yep I had it in pregnancy and went to the doctors to check (i'd normally just treat it myself), I was told the same you can only used the pessary (not the tablet by mouth, that isn't safe) and don't use the applicator as the others said.

I sent my husband to get it when I got it in pregnancy after that, I don't think they even asked him if I was pregnant anyway. There's no way I'd suffer 2 days with it waiting for a go, I'd get it so bad it was like torture the itching.
