Alcohol in TWW

Hi all, just wondering if (and to what extent) people abstain from alcohol generally whilst TCC or during the TWW. I've normally allowed myself a couple of glasses of wine a week unless I'm in the TWW. However, I've been trying to conceive #2 for 9 months and getting nowhere so don't know if I need to make more changes. On the other hand I sometimes wonder why I'm bothering to miss my glass of wine on a Friday and Saturday during the TWW when I never end up pregnant anyway! I'd be interested to hear what others do!

I’m having this dilemma too ! I’ve always liked a tipple , was actually quite badly drunk a few times with first dd ( didn’t realise I was pregnant until 6 weeks) she turned out fab. Continued to drink a couple of times a week and got pregnant twice but ended in mmc. I then began to wonder if the alcohol had damaged the eggs or something and got a bit paranoid . I gave up except one glass of vino during AF. However, feeling very stressed feeling like my life is all restrictions ( lowered my carbs , gave up caffeine and taking tonnes of pills) been trying for a few months and wonder did I get pregnant b4 because I was more relaxed living the normal life and having a few drinks here and there and now everything is too stressful?? Have read though that , for example, Having one drink Massively showed lower ivf success rates even a month before treatment. So I guess same when trying normally 🤷‍♀️ I think I will have a couple a month just to have some normality though x

@Sunshinelove8 I'm totally the same! Given up caffeine (except for whatever is in chocolate) plus taking a concoction of supplements, so giving up wine completely just feels like a step too far and that I'd be miserable not having that to look forward to at the weekend. I also conceived our DS first month of trying - didn't give up anything and I also got pregnant unexpectedly in 2018 (although this turned out to be ectopic). It's interesting what you said about IVF...

I have one baby, conceived last June. I used to abstain from alcohol
during the two week wait but the month I conceived DD I certainly did not. She was conceived on our wedding anniversary weekend, which involved lots of champagne and then a week later we went on holiday for two weeks and I drank wine every night (and sat in a hot tub most nights!). I found out I was pregnant on day 10 of the holiday. I stopped drinking and using the hot tub etc as soon as I found out I was pregnant and put the drinking out of my mind as I couldn't change what had already been done. DD is a beautiful and healthy baby. I'm not advising binge drinking during the two week wait but that being said I don't think the odd unit or two will do any harm, especially if you test early.

I am on the same boat too. Been trying to conceive #2 for over a year now. We conceived DS in our first month of trying so I did not give up anything last time. I’m now also taking loads of supplements, looking after my diet, have stopped caffeine and pretty much all alcohol. It does feel like living under permanent restrictions which in times of Corona makes it even more difficult. I do wonder as well if stress is playing its part this time but I also find it difficult to ‘relax’ when time goes by and the results don’t change...does anyone have some tips on how to relax while also keep wanting to conceive? Xx

It's just so hard to know what to do for the best! I wish I could chill out about TCC too but the longer it takes the harder it gets. I was originally concerned about the fact the age gap with my DS is getting bigger and bigger but now I'm just panicking it's never going to happen at all! I'm sure the stress/obsession isn't having a positive impact.

I totally hear you @loulougirl. I was and still am concerned about the age gap with my DS too and the fact that he doesn’t have anyone to play with. But I also worry that it may never happen and this is quite difficult to accept

Sounds like we are in very similar circumstances @Acsuch (won't let me tag you for some reason). Out of interest, how does your DP feel? Mine is so much more relaxed and says I shouldn't stress and it will happen when it happens. He says we should just be happy to have DS. Whilst of course I'm so thankful for our little boy, I will be devastated if we can't have another. Have you had any tests done? I'm going to put the wheels in motion with the dr if it doesn't work for us this month.
